How It Happened

In the top of the first, Maritime took a 1-0 lead on a Henderson single to left that brought in Aten to score. In the bottom of the inning, the Westfield bats were alive as they scored four runs in the inning. The first, and tying run, came on Palmer's solo home run to left field. Then, two singles drove in the other three runs, including a two-run single from Maniscalco.

Playing from behind, the Bucs were not discouraged as they tied the game up immediately in the top of the second inning. Aten singled to center field to score Leslie, Sylvia then tripled to score Aten and Velzis singled to center to score Sylvia. The teams were knotted at 4-4 after two.

With eight runs scored in the first two innings, the offense took a few innings off as the pitchers and defense took over from the third to the fifth. Then, in the sixth, the Buccaneers took their second lead of the game when Sylvia reached on a fielder's choice and Luciano came around to score to make it 5-4.

It took until the bottom of the eighth, but the Owls tied the game one again. This time on a Florence double to left that scored Day. With the Bucs unable to score in the top of the ninth and Westfield failing to walkoff in the ninth, despite having the bases loaded, the teams went to extra innings.

During the free baseball period, the Buccaneers scored in the top of the tenth on a Luciano single to center that scored Tropea to give Maritime their third lead of the game. In the bottom of the frame, on for his seventh save of the season Baiardi got the first two outs of the inning on a fly out and ground out. A runner then reached on a two-bag miscue by the Bucs. With the tying run in scoring position, Baiardi struck out the next batter looking to secure the 6-5 win for the Bucs in the MASCAC Quarterfinals.
