Baseball: Bucs Double Up Bulldogs at Hendy

BUZZARDS BAY, MA -- Buccaneer Baseball improved to 5-1 at home with a 4-2 win over Dean College on Wednesday afternoon at Hendy Field. In the game, Buccaneers starting pitcher Justin Brown picked up his first victory and Brendan Baiardi recorded his first collegiate save.

At the Plate

Maritime

  • John TropeaAJ Pietrafesa, and freshman Jake Houston each had two hits for the Bucs in the win, including doubles by Tropea and Pietrafesa.
  • Pietrafesa, Colin Landry, and Chris Perito were credited with RBI.
  • AJ Luciano, Tropea, Landry and Max Hefner scored the four runs for the Bucs.
  • Landry worked three of the Bucs nine walks in the game.
  • Hefner and Perito were both credited with stolen bases.

Dean

  • The Bulldogs had eight hits in the game, three from Andrew Sullivan who scored twice in the loss.
  • Jesse Rodrigues Jr. and Ryan Desmond had two-hit games. Desmond drove in both runs for the Bulldogs. 
  • Sullivan scored both Dean runs in the loss.
  • Tommy Troy Jr. drew the only walk from Buccaneer pitching.
  • Sullivan had the only extra-base hit for Dean.

How It Happened

Dean got on the scoreboard first in the tol of the second on a Desmond single, scoring sullivan. In the bottom of the second the Buccaneers took a 2-1 lead that they would not look back from. The runs scored on a Perito grounder, scoring Landry. Then on a double steal, Perito and Hefner were both safe on their steal attempts, Hefner stole home to make it 2-1. 

In the bottom of the third, Landry walked with the bases loaded to bring in a third Buccaneer run.

The following two innings were quiet, then, in the sixth, Pietrafesa reached on a fielder's choice that brought Luciano across the plate.

Dean got a run back in the top of the seventh on a Desmond sacrifice fly that plated Sullivan. 

Following that run, Baiardi made quick work on the Bucs to finish out the seventh, then in the eighth and ninth to close out the Bucs 4-2 victory over Dean.

The Buccaneers will be home on Sunday, March 27th for a doubleheader against Rivier University beginning at 1pm.
