Buc Ball Opens MCLA Series with a Win on the Road

NORTH ADAMS, MA -- Friday afternoon, the Buccaneers traveled to Western Mass for the opening game of a three-game conference series with MCLA. In the nine inning game, Justin Brown threw his first complete game and picked up his fourth win of the season in the Bucs 7-3 win over the Trailblazers.

Maritime

  • The Bucs had nine hits in the game, all singles. Three came off the bat of Zach Sylvia, two from Aidan Henderson and Chris PeritoTucker Lesli and A.J. Luciano both had one.
  • Henderson drove in two runs for the Bucs. Alex Schlapak, Sylvia, Perito and Luciano each drove in one run.
  • Sylvia and Perito each scored twice. Henderson, Leslie, and Luciano all scored once.
  • AJ Pietrafesa drew two walks in the game.
  • Sylvia, Pietrafesa, Henderson, and Perito all stole a base.

MCLA

  • Of the team's eight hits, Tristen Ciarlo had three of them, Randy Adams had two, three other players each had one hit.
  • Adams drove in two runs. Ty Mazzeo drove in one.
  • Three players scored the runs for the Trailblazers. 
  • Jayco Pena had a double for MCLA while Adams hit a home run.

How It Happened

Maritime opened the scoring in the top of the third inning on a Schlapak ground out to second that scored Perito from third. Down 1-0, MCLA scored two runs in the bottom of the third on an Adams single to right and a Mazzeo ground out. The Trailblazers led game one 2-1 after three innings.

After a clean fourth for both teams, the Buccaneers would score one run in each of the next four innings, unanswered. In the fifth, Luciano hit a sacrifice fly to center field to score Perito for the second time in the game. In the sixth, Henderson singled to left, scoring Sylvia. In the seventh, Sylvia singled to center bringing Leslie around to score. Finally, in the eighth, Perito singled to left, scoring Henderson. At the seventh inning stretch the Bucs held a 5-2 lead over MCLA.

In the bottom of the eighth, the Trailblazers got one back on Adams's home run.

Up 5-3, Maritime added some insurance in the top of the ninth, scoring a run on a wild pitch and then on a bases-loaded walk of Henderson that scored Sylvia. Though Brown gave up two hits in the bottom of the ninth, MCLA were unable to bring any runs across and the Bucs secured the game-ne victory, 7-3, over the Trailblazers.
