Buc Ball Falls to Johnson & Wales on the Road

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Maritime added a non-conference game against JWU on the road for Wednesday ahead of their three-game conference series with Fitchburg on Thursday and Friday. The Bucs dropped the game to the Wildcats 17-3.

  • Xavier Botelho led the way with four hits.
  • EJ Leone and Griffin Snyder had three hits each.
  • Snyder drove in four runs, Leone drove in three.
  • Botelho scored three times.
  • Miles Kelly and Riley Hasson drew two walks each.
  • Kelly, Snyder, and Owen Davis hit two doubles apiece. Leone added a double.
  • Nicolas Fortes and Hasson each had triples. 
  • Leone and Snyder both hit home runs.
  • Thorin Sanches-Guerra stole the only bag for the Wildcats.

 

How It Happened

Maritime struck first in the top of the first on a sacrifice fly by Houston, scoring Estrada. In the bottom of the frame, JWU scored three runs, two on a Snyder double, to take a 3-1 lead after one.

The Bucs cut the deficit to one run in the top of the second on an error by the Wildcats that scored Kennedy. In the bottom of the inning, Johnson & Wales scored one on a double play the ran their lead back to two.

The Wildcats quieted the Buccaneer bats in the third and scored four runs. Two came on a Snyder home run, two more on Hasson's triple.

JWU extended their lead to nine runs, 11-2, in the fourth on Leone's homer that scored two and a Sanchez-Guerra single bringing one across.

The fifth was quiet, but in the sixth, the Wildcats scored four more to go up 15-2.

In the top of the eighth, Maritime got a run back on an error by the second baseman allowing Perito to come around to score. In the bottom of the eighth, the Wildcats put the game away scoring two more and holding the Bucs in the top of the ninth for the 17-3 non-conference win.

 

What's Next

The Buccaneers host Fitchburg State on Thursday in the first of three conference games with the Falcons. Game time is set for 4pm.
