Buc Ball Sweeps Rivier in Sunday Matinee at Hendy

BUZZARDS BAY, MA -- The Buccaneers hosted Rivier in a non-conference doubleheader at Hendy Field on Sunday afternoon and swept the day taking game one 2-0 and game two 10-2.

 

Game One

  • The Raiders mustered two hits off of Tinkham in the game, both off the bat of Frank Gulezian.
  • Trevor McLuin tallied a stolen base in the loss.

 

How It Happened

In the bottom of the second inning, Tropea hit a single to the right side that scored Perito and Aten to give the Bucs a 2-0 lead.

Though the Bucs couldn't bring any more runs across, Tinkham shut down the Rivier hitters, striking out five and walking no one, to earn his third win of the season on the mound and the sixth of the season for the Bucs.

  • John TropeaZach Sylvia and Chris Perito all had two hits in the game. 
  • AJ PietrafesaMichael Doyle, and A.J. Luciano all had one hit.
  • Sylvia and Perito each drove in three runs. Four other players drove in runs.
  • Doyle, Luciano and Perito each scored twice in the win.
  • The Bucs as a team worked seven walks, two by Jake Houston.
  • Both of Sylvia's hits were doubles, the only extra-base hits of the game for Maritime.

Rivier

  • The Raiders had four hits in the game, one each from Jacob Bourdreau, Frank Gulezian, Zachary White, and Timothy Scott.
  • Gulezian drove in both runs for Rivier. 
  • Corey Cochran and Scott scored the runs.
  • White was credited with a stolen base, the only one of the game.

How It Happened

The Buccaneers took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on a Pietrafesa single, scoring Tropea. 

In the bottom of the second, with no outs, the Bucs ran Mainey from the game scoring five in the inning to take a 6-0 lead at the time. 

In the top of the third, Rivier scored both of their runs on a Gulezian single through the right side scoring Cochran and Scott. The Bucs got one of those runs back in the bottom of the inning when Perito hit a sacrifice fly to right, scoring Doyle from third.

Maritime tacked on two runs in the fifth on a Perito single to score Luciano and a Sylvia double that brought Perito to the plate.

The Buccaneers scored one more in the bottom of the sixth before Dean sat down the Raiders in order in the seventh to earn his first victory on the mound as a Buccaneer and get the Bucs a 10-2 win, their seventh of the season. The Win brings the Bucs to .500 (7-7) on the year.

The Buccaneers will host Tufts on Tuesday, March 29th at Hendy field in a non-conference matchup beginning at 4pm.
