Buc Ball Celebrates 50 Years With Sweep of MCLA

BUZZARDS BAY, MA -- After a road win in game one of their conference series with MCAL, the Bucs and Trailblazers met at Hendy Field on Saturday for a doubleheader. In front of Alumni, and family and friends of Maritime baseball, the present and future of Buc Ball swept the 'Blazers away with 10-1 and 6-0 wins.

 

Game One

  • Robinson Baez and Isaiah Mack each had two hits in the game. Four other Blazers had hits. 
  • Baez was credited with the RBI. Austin Rachiele scored the only MCLA run.
  • Baez and Mck each had doubles.

How It Happened

Maritime gave Tinkham a solid lead in the bottom of the first scoring seven runs. Henderson started it off with a bases-clearing double, scoring three runs. Perito drove in Henderson, Leslie drove in Aten. Luciano scored Perito and Leslie scored from third on a throwing error by the catcher.

The Bucs went on to make it 8-0 in the second on a Velzis single to right, scoring Pietrafesa. 

In the top of the third, MCLA scored one on a Baez double, bringing in Rachiele. The Buccaneers answered in the bottom of the frame with a run of their own on a Sylvia double that plated Leslie.

Up 9-1, the Bucs added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth on a wild pitch.

Now up 10-1, Tinkham faced four batters in the seventh and shut down MCLA to earn the 10-1 victory.

  • Zach Sylvia and A.J. Luciano each had two hits in the game. Five other Bucs recorded hits.
  • Sylvia drove in two runs while four other Buccaneers drove in runs.
  • Sylvia and Luciano each scored twice.
  • Alex Schlapak and Michael Doyle both had a hit and each walked.
  • No Buccaneers struck out in game two.
  • Luciano hit two doubles with Sylvia, Aj Pietrafesa and Aidan Henderson recording one each.
  • John Tropea and Sylvia hit back-to-back triples in the game.

MCLA

  • Robinson Baez, Randy Adams and Patrick Sheehan each had hits for the 'Blazers.
  • Rob Correia worked two walks in the loss.

How It Happened

The Bucs spread their scoring out in the game starting with two runs in the first. The first on a sacrifice fly by Velzis and the second on Henderson's double.

In the bottom of the second, the Bucs scored two more to take a 4-0 lead. Sylvia doubled in Luciano and Pietrafesa doubled in Sylvia.

In the fourth, Maritime scored one more, this time on a Schlapak single that brought Luciano in.

They added an insurance run in the sixth on Sylvia's triple that scored Tropea who had just tripled in the previous at bat.

In the seventh, Dean walked the first hitter, struck out the second ,then got Sheehan to ground into a double play to end the game, 6-0, in favor of the Bucs for the series sweep.

 

What's Next

Maritime picks up their conference series with Bridgewater on Tuesday on the road beginning at 2pm. The Bucs hol a 1-0 lead in that series after a 7-6 walk off win last Monday.
