Buccaneers Season Ends in MASCAC Championship

FRAMINGHAM, Mass -- The Buccaneers and the Bridgewater State Bears met in the MASCAC Championship for the second time in as many years on Saturday in Framingham. The #5 Buccaneers, having knocked off the #4 seed Worcester State Lancers, the #6 seed Fitchburg tate Falcons and #1 seed Framingham State Rams. The Bucs were unable to beat the Bears on SAturday and send the game to a second Championship game on Sunday losing in the Championship game 11-6.

At The Plate

Maritime

  • AJ Pietrafesa led the Bucs with three hits.
  • Brett Velzis and Aidan Henderson both had two hits in the loss.
  • John TropeaMichael LogiudiceZach Sylvia, and Chris Perito all had one hit.
  • The two extra base hits in the game belonged to Velzis and Logiudice with a triple and double respectively.
  • Velzis drove in four runs in the game, Logiudice and Sylvia each drove in one.
  • Tropea scored twice, Velzis, Henderson, Logiudice, and Perito all scored once. 

Bridgewater

  • Scott Emerson, Mathew Pigot, Jay Wladkowski, and Sean Goudey all had two hits in the win.
  • Joshua Selander, Kevin Lindsay, Came James, Joey Molis, and Riley Thornell all had one hit apiece.
  • Wladkowski and Molis both hit home runs in the game. James recorded a triple and Goudey had a double.
  • Wladkowski drove in four runs, Thornell drove in three, James brought in two, Emerson and Molis each plated one run.
  • Emerson, Wladkowski, Lindsay, and James all scored twice. Selander, Goudey, and Molis all scored once.
  • Emerson and James both had a stolen base in the game.

How It Happened

Bridgewater scored in the bottom of the first to open the scoring and tok a 2-0 lead after one.

In the bottom of the second, the Bears tacked on three more runs to extend their early lead to 5-0.

The Buccaneers erased the shutout in the top of the third on a Velzis single to right field that scored Henderson.

The scoring held off until the bottom of the fourth when Thornell knocked in two runs for the Bears to make the score 7-1 after four innings.

In the top of the fifth, The Bucs plated two runs on a Logiudice double and a Velzis sacrifice fly to pull within four runs, 7-4.

Ater a scorelss sixth, the Bucs scored three in the top of the seventh inning to bring the score to 7-6 Bears. Velzis tripled to left field bringing in tow runs and Sylvia singled through the left side scoring Velzis from third. In the bottomf of the seventh, the Bears added a run on Molis's home run. Bridgewater led by two runs after seven inning, 8-6.

In the bottom of the eighth, the Bears tacked on three more runs to bring the score to 11-6. Bridgewater shut down the Bucs in the top of the ninth to win the game and the MASCAC Championship over the Buccaneers.

Maritime finished their season 23-20 overall and made it in to the MASCAC Championship for the second season in a row.
