Buccaneers Head to MASCAC Semi-Finals After Loss to Rams

FRAMINGHAM, Mass -- Thursday afternoon, the Buccaneers took on the Framingham Rams in the quarterfinals of the MASCAC Postseason Tournament after beating Worcester State in the first round game earlier in the day.

At The Plate

  • Ryan Boyle had three hits for the Rams including a home run.
  • Shane Costello had two hits, Steven Burbank, Robert Johnson, Cam Gilroy, and Ryan Plocker all had one hit.
  • Boyle drove in five runs in the win. Costello and Plocker drove in one apiece.
  • Costello scored twice, five other Rams scored once. 

How It Happened

After two scoreless innings to begin the game, Framingham opened the scoring with three runs in the bottom of the third on Boyle's three-run home run.

The bucs answered in the top of the fourth plating two runs on back-to-back-to-back doubles from Pietrafesa, Aten, and Tropea to bring the score to 3-2. In the bottom of the fourth, Framingham scored four. The first run came in on a Plocker single, the second on a Costello single and two more came across the plate on a Boyle single. The Rams led 7-2 after four innings of play.

The fifth and sixth innings were scoreless and the rest of the scoring belonged to the Buccaneers. In the top of the seventh, Velzis singled in Logiudice to get within four runs, 7-3.

In the top of the eighth, Aten hit a solo home run over the left field fence to bring the score to 7-4 and a run came in on a Rams miscue and the Bucs were back within two, 7-5, after eight.

In the ninth, Aten singled to center field to score Coulter and the Buccaneers were down one run, 7-6. Panza finished off Maritime in the inning to send the Buccaneers to the elimination portion of the MASCAC semi-finals against Fitchburg with the Rams going to the winners bracket to take on Bridgewater State.

 

What's Next

The Buccaneers are back in Framingham on Friday to play Fitchburg State in an elimination game beginning at 11am.
