Baseball Loses Series Opener to Bears on the Road

BRIDGEWATER, Mass -- The Buccaneers and Bears played the first game of their three game conference series on Tuesday afternoon in Bridgewater. The game was close until the late innings. With the score tied at 3-3, the Bears went off for seven runs and took game one of the series, 10-3.

  • Cam James recorded three hits in the win.
  • Riley Thornell, Dan Jasmin, Mathew Pigeon, and Kevin Lindsay each had two hits.
  • Scott Emerson, Joey Molis, and DJ Prampin all had one hit.
  • Molis and Prampin both hit home runs. James tallied a double.
  • Molis, James, and Prampin all drove in two runs. 
  • Emerson, and Pigeon both drove in one run.
  • Emerson and James scored twice. Six other Bears each scored once.
  • Emerson, Jasmin, and Lindsay each stole two basses; Prampin stole one.

How It Happened

The Bears opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning on a James single up the middle bringing in two runs to score, making it 2-0 Bridgewater.

In the top of the second, the Bucs scored their first on a bases-loaded walk of Silvia, scoring Pietrafesa. The Bears led 2-1 after two.

Velzis came in to score on a wild pitch in the top of the third to tie the game at 2-2. 

The 2-2 score remained until the bottom of the fourth when Emerson singled for the Bears and brought in Pigeon to score to give Bridgewater the lead once again, 3-2.

In the sixth inning, Maritime tied the game again at 3-3 when Aten singled through the left side of the infield to bring in Perito. 

It was 3-3 until the bottom of the seventh when the Bears took the lead in a big way. Molis hit a two run home run to make the score 5-3 Bridgewater, Prampin hit another two run home run in the inning to make it 7-3, and then on a Bucs miscue two runs scored to make it 9-3. 

Bridgewater added a run in the bottom of the eighth as retired the Buccaneers in the ninth to take the first game of the season series 10-3.

 

What's Next

Maritime is off until Friday when they host MCLA at Hendy Field at 4pm in game one of a three-game weekend conference series with the Trailblazers.
