Baseball Beats Dean on the Road

FRANKLIN, Mass -- The Buccaneers were on the road on Tuesday afternoon for a non-conference game against the Dean Bulldogs. Hunter Dean went the distance on the mound, Aj Pietrafesa and Brett Velzis each had three hits in the 11-4 victory. Velzis extended his hitting streak to seven games.

  • Jacob Pasche led the Bulldogs with three hits.
  • Seth Cruz added two hits for the 'Dogs.
  • Five other players had a hit for the hosts.
  • Pasche, Brian Dovidi, and Andrew Sulli all drove in a run.
  • Pasche scored twice, Cruz and Dovidi each scored once.
  • Pasche and Gavin Goss both had a double in the came.

How It Happened

Dean struck first in the bottom of the first innings after getting out of the top of the frame scoring two runs on a Pasche triple and a Sulli sacrifice fly to left.

In the top of the second the Bucs got on the board and took a lead as they plated three runs. Coulter and Sylvia each walked with the bases loaded for two of the runs. The third run came in on a wild pitch. The Bucs led 3-2 after two.

The lead for Maritime lasted until the bottom of the third as the Bulldogs scored two runs to retake the lead, 4-3. Dovidi and Sulli both singled in the inning to drive in runs. 

The fourth, and fifth were scoreless on both sides and Dean continued to lead 4-3 after five. Then, in the top of the sixth, Maritime scored one on a Coulter single to tie the game at 4-4. 

In the top of the seventh, the Buccaneers took their second lead of the game and never looked back. They plated four in the inning going out to an 8-4 lead.

In the top of the eighth, Pietrafesa and Velzis added insurance for the Bucs. Pietrafesa was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, Aten scored on a wild pitch and Velzis stole home to make it 11-4. 

Dean sat down Dean in the top of the ninth and the bucs went on to win by the same 11-4 score for their seventh win of the season.

The Bucs are back home on Wednesday to take on Gordon College at 4pm.
