Baseball Loses MASCAC Opener to Rams on the Road

FRAMINGHAM, Mass -- The Buccaneers traveled to Framingham Friday afternoon to take on the Framingham State Rams in their first MASCAC contest of the 2023 season. The Rams took advantage of the home field advantage, winning the opening game of the three-game series 13-4.

  • Steven Burbank, Ryan Boyle, Robert Johnston, and Ryan Plocker all had three hits in the win.
  • Shane Costello, James Gilleran, and Matthew Shaver each had two hits.
  • Danny Robichaud added one hit.
  • Boyle hit three home runs in the game. Ryan Plocker hit two doubles, Costello and Robichaud each hit one double.
  • Boyle drove in seven runs, Johnston drove in three and Costello brought in one.
  • Plocker and Shaver each had a steal. 

 

How It Happened

The Rams scored first in the bottom of the first on a single to center field by Johnston and held their 1-0 lead until the third.

In the third, the Bucs tied the game on Estrada's home run to right field. Boyle hit his first homer of the game in the bottom of the third to retake the lead, 3-1, for the Rams.

Maritime cut the deficit to one in the top of the fifth on a Sylvia double scoring Logiudice. Then, in the bottom of the frame, Framingham extended the lead to three runs on Boyle's second two-run home run of the game. Framingham led 5-2 after five.

The Rams added on five runs in the bottom of the sixth to get their lead to eight runs, 10-2. Boyle hit his third home run of the game in the bottom of the seventh, this time a three-run shot to make it 13-2. 

The Bucs added one run in the top of the eighth and again in the top of the ninth to make the score 13-4. They couldn't add anymore runs, losing their conference opener to the Rams.

 

What's Next

The Buccaneers host Framingham in a conference doubleheader on Sunday at Hendy Field to round out their MASCAC series. First pitch is set for 12pm.
