Buc Ball Splits Conference Doubleheader with Rams

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass -- After losing their conference opener in Framingham on Friday, the Bucs hosted the Rams in a conference doubleheader on Sunday on Taylor's Point. Though the Bucs lost game one 5-1, they bounced back in game two winning a close 3-2 ball game to take a game from the series.

 

Game One

  • Six rams had two-hit games in the win.
  • Robert Johnston and Cam Gilroy had one hit each.
  • Ryan Boyle and Johnston each had a double.
  • Matthew Shaver drove in two runs, three other players drove in one each.
  • Five different players scored run for the Rams.
  • Shaver was credited with a stolen base.

 

How It Happened

All six runs in game one were scored in the first inning. The Rams scored five in the top of the first thanks to doubles by Boyle and Johnston, a single from Shaver and a bases loaded walk of Shane Costello. In the bottom of the inning, Velzis grounded out to first which allowed Sylvia to score from third to make it 5-1 after one.

The Rams threatened throughout the game amassing 14 total hits in their game one win but were unable to score any more runs. LoGuidice kept the Bucs at bay to hold on for the 5-1 win for Framingham.

  • Robert Johnston had two hits for the Rams.
  • Steven Burbank and Caleb Hendrix each had one hit.
  • Burbank hit a triple, the lone extra base hit for Framingham in the loss.
  • Burbank and Ryan Boyle each drove in a run.
  • Burbank and Cam Gilroy scored the two runs for the Rams.

 

How It Happened

Like game one, all of the scoring in game two took place in one inning. With the game 0-0 after two innings, the Rams scored two runs in the top of the third on Burbank's triple that scored Gilroy and Boyle grounded out to the pitcher to score Burbank from third. The Rams led 2-0 after two and a half innings of play. In the bottom of the third, Estrada singled to score Aten and Sylvia to tie the game at 2-2. Then, Henderson walked with the bases loaded, scoring Estrada to give the Bucs a 3-2 lead. 

From there, the pitching and defense took over for both teams. Dean shut down the Rams through six and Baiardi took over in the seventh striking out the side in order to secure the win, 3-2, for the Bucs giving them their first conference win of the season.

 

What's Next

The Bucs will host Wentworth on Tuesday, April 4th at 4pm at Hendy Field. The Bucs will be wearing special shoelaces for the game to bring awareness to Pediatric Cancer in their Lace Up 4 Cancer game, presented by the Go4Goal Foundation.
