Baseball Loses to Gordon at Home

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass -- Maritime hosted Gordon College on Wednesday at Hendy Field in a non-conference matchup. The Scots headed home with the win, 19-9, over the Bucs.

At The Plate

Maritime

  • Zach SylviaJohn Tropea, and Aidan Henderson all had two hit games for the Bucs. Six other Buccaneers added hits in the game.
  • Grady Freeman had a triple in his first action of the season. 
  • Aidan Weir hit a triple for the Bucs in the Loss.
  • Both of Henderson's hits were home runs; Sylvia added his second home run of the season in the game.
  • Henderson drove in five runs for Maritime. Sylvia, Freeman, Weir, and AJ Pietrafesa each drove in one run. 

Gordon

  • The Scots amassed 21 hits in the game. CJ Demers had five hits to lead all player. 
  • Andrew Hartman added four hits in the win. 
  • Demers drove in six runs for Gordon. Shame Demers drove in three.
  • Hartman scored four times for the guests.
  • Dalton Cody and Ryan McSally each had two doubles in the game. Hartman, CJ Demers and Jonathan McIntyre all had one double. 
  • Shane and CJ Demers each went deep.
  • CJ Demers and McIntyre stole a base in the win.

How It Happened

Gordon scored early and often plating four runs in the top of the first innings. Maritime answered with Sylvia's home run in the bottom of the frame. The Scots led 4-1 after one.

Gordon went up 10-1 in the top of the second scoring six runs. They added another run in the top of the fourth to lead 11-1 which held through the fourth inning.

In the bottom of the fifth, Henderson homered, scoring himself and Tropea to make it 11-3 after five.

Gordon scored four in the top of the sixth, three on CJ Demers' home run. The Bucs answered in the bottom of the sixth with four runs of their own, three on Henderson's second home run of the game. 

In the ninth, the Scots added four more, three on Shane Demers' homer to take a 19-7 advantage. The Buccaneers scored twice in the bottom of the ninth but that was as close as they would get, losing the game 19-9.

 

What's Next

The Buccaneers are back home on Sunday, March 26th to take on Rivier in a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 12pm.
