Booker Hits Two Home Runs in Conference Split with MCLA

NORTH ADAMS, Mass -- The Bucs traveled to Western Mass on Saturday for a conference doubleheader with MCLA and came away with a split winning game two 13-11 and losing game one 8-5.

 

Game one

Maritime

  • Reagan Kerecz had tow hits for the Bucs including a double.
  • Ab'c'de Patane hit her fifth home run of the season tying the program record for career dingers.
  • Jennamaria Klemp had a double in the game for her only hit of the game.
  • Patane drove in three runs on her home run. Kerecz drove in the other two Buccaneers runs.
  • Kerecz, Hannah Burton, Patane, Klemp, and Abby Pope all scored.
  • Pope was credited with a stolen base in the loss.

MCLA

  • Kristie Zator had a three-hit game in the win. Madison Teta, Ella Staffier, and Lidia Flores all had two hit games. Hailey Peabody, Justina Pardi, Ezmeralda Albright, and Maggie Closinski all had one hit.
  • Zator had two doubles in the game, Staffier and Flores each had one.
  • Peabody and Staffier each hit a triple.
  • Teta hit a home run.
  • Flores drove in two runs. Teta, Staffier, Zator, and Closinski all drove in one run. 
  • Peabody and Staffier both scored twice. Teta, Flores, Zator, and Pardi all scored once.
  • Teta and Peabody each stole a base in the win.

 

How It Happened

MCLA scored first in the bottom of the first on a Flores single that scored Peabody. MCLA led 1-0 after one.

In the third, Flores doubled and drove in Staffier to make it 2-0. Later in the inning, Zator singled to score Flores making it 3-0 Trailblazers after three innings.

MCLA tacked on more runs in the fourth on a Teta home run and another run came in on a Bucs miscue. The Blazers led 5-0 after four.

The Buccaneers struck in the top of the fifth plating five runs. Kerecz doubled to bring Klemp and Pope across to score and Patane hit a three-run homer to tie the game at 5-5. MCLA scored in the bottom of the fram to retake the lead at 6-5.

In the sixth, the Trailblazers scored twice on a sacrifice fly and a wild pitch to take an 8-5 lead, the eventual final score of game one.

  • Grace Biondo went 4-for-5 at the plate and hit her first career home run.
  • Kelsey Booker had three hits in the game, all for extra bases hitting two home runs and a double. 
  • Reagan KereczHannah Burton, and Abby Pope all had two hits in the win.
  • Ashley Haller added one hit to the 13 total for the Bucs.
  • Booker drove in four runs in the game, Haller added two RBI.
  • Kerecz, Burton, Ab'c'de Patane, Biondo, and Rubi Butler all had one RBI.
  • Burton, Booker, and Biondo all scored three times, Pope scored twice, Kerecz and Taylor Lane each came in to score once.
  • Biondo recorded a stolen base in the game.

MCLA

  • Ezmeralda Albright led the Blazers with three hits.
  • Hailey Peabody, Lidia Flores, and Justina Pardi all had two-hit games.
  • Madison Teta, Ella Staffier, Kristie Zator, and Sarah McMahon all had one hit.
  • Zator hit a home run and Peabody, Pardi and Albright all had doubles.
  • Flores drove in four runs, Peabody brought in three, Zator plated two and Staffier and Albright both drove in one run.
  • Albright scored three times, Teta scored twice, six other Trailblazers came in to score once.
  • Teta, Peabody, and Maggie Closinski each had a stolen base for the speedy Blazers.

How It Happened

Maritime scored three runs in the top of the first inning to take an early lead. Patane hit a sacrifice fly bringing Burton for the first run. Haller singled bringing in two runs, Biondo and Booker, to make it 3-0 Bucs. In the bottom of the first, MCLA tied the game with three runs of their own. Flores singled to bring in one and Zator hit a two-run home run.

The Trailblazers took the lead in the bottom of the second inning scoring four runs. Albright drove in one run, Peabody drove in two and Flores brought in one to give the Blazers a 7-3 advantage after two innings.

After a quiet third inning, the Buccaneers tied the game in the top of the fourth inning. Burton singled to score Pope, Kerecz scored on an error and Booker hit her first home run of the game to bring in two runs. The teams were tied at 7-7 after three and a half innings. In the bottom of the fourth, MCLA regained the lead plating two runs. The first run came in on a Peabody double and the second on a Staffier sacrifice fly to center field. The Trailblazers led 9-7 after four.

The Bucs didn't let the Blazers hold the lead very long as they tied the game again in the top of the fifth. Pope singled and an error by MCLA allowed Lane to score making the score 9-8. Kerecz then grounded out to shortstop and Pope came in to score from third tying the game at 9-9.

In the sixth, Butler grounded out and Biondo came in to score from third to give the Bucs a 10-9 lead. In the bottom of the fram, MCLA got two runs on a Flores single to take an 11-10 lead after six.

Needing a run, Maritime got that and more in the top of the seventh. Booker hit her second home run of the game to bring in herself and Burton giving the Buccaneers a 12-11 advantage. Biondo followed suit and gave her team some insurance with her first career home run making the score 13-11. Klemp went on to retire the side in the bottom of the seventh to bring the game final with the Bucs winning 13-11 and splitting the conference doubleheader with MCLA.

 

What's Next

The Bucs are back home on Wednesday, April 26th to take on St. Joseph (Conn) in a non-conference doubleheader. The team will also be hosting a Childhood Cancer Awareness event and fundraiser sponsored by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) with all donations going to the American Childhood Cancer Organization.
