Bucs Swept by Pride at Home

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass -- The Bucs hosted Regis College in their final tune up before conference play begins on Saturday against Framingham State at home. Maritime, who hadn't lost two in a row since early March, was swept by the Pride, 6-3 in game one and 10-9 in game two. There were a number of bright spots for the Bucs in the games including Kelsey Booker extending her hitting streak to 18 games and Ab'c'de Patane extended her hitting streak to 14 games.

  • Ab'c'de Patane led all players in the game with three hits including a double and her team-leading fourth home run of the season.
  • Kelsey Booker and Reagan Kerecz each had two hits in the game.
  • Lizzie Weber added the only other hit for Maritime in the loss.
  • Patane drove in two runs on her two-run home run. Kerecz was also credited with an RBI.
  • Patane, Ashley Haller, and Rubi Butler scored the runs for the Bucs.
  • Patane also had a stolen base to her credit.

Regis

  • Kayla Morrill had two hits for Regis in the win. Six other Pride has hits in the game.
  • Morrill drove in two runs, Chloe Beland drove in two. 
  • Bianca Burke and Andria Braga each scored twice. 
  • Diana Petrarca and Morrill each scored once.
  • Morrill and Colby Butterfield each had doubles in the win.
  • Burke, Braga, and Petrarca all had stolen bases.

 

How It Happened

Regis scored in the top of the first inning on an error in right field that allowed Burke to scoot around the bases and score to make it 1-0 pride. 

The Bucs scored their first run in the bottom of the second on a Kerecz single that scored Butler to make it 1-1 after two.

It was a pitcher's duel between Klemp and Butterfield until the fifth inning when the Pride took the lead for good. Morrill singled to left center to bring in Braga and Burke to make it 3-1. Beland then singled down the left field line bringing in two runs to make it 5-1 Regis after four and a half. 

In the top of the sixth, Morrill doubled to left to score Braga and make it 6-1 Regis.

The Bucs scored two in the bottom of the seventh on Patane's two-run home run scoring herself and Haller to make it 6-3 but the Bucs could score no more falling in game one, 6-3.

  • Erin Donlan and Kelsey Booker each had two hits in the game including a double each.
  • Reagan KereczAb'c'de PataneRubi ButlerAbby Pope, and Klemp all added one hit apiece.
  • Booker and Klemp each drove in two runs. Donlan drove in one.
  • Kerecz, Booker, and Patane all scored twice. Donlan, Butler and Pope each scored once.
  • To go along with Donlan and Booker's doubles, Butler hit a triple in the game.
  • Kerecz stole her team-leading seventh stolen base.

Regis

  • Madi Zancan led all players with three hits.
  • Bianca Burke and Chloe Beland each had two hits.
  • Four other Pride hitters had one hit in the win.
  • Burke, Zancan, Bri Page and MArissa Allen all drove in two runs each.
  • Page scored three times, Beland scored twice. Five other Pride players scored once.
  • Burke had the only extra base hits, a double, for the Pride.
  • Burke, Beland, and Page each stole a base.

How It Happened

Game two was a roller coaster ride between the Bucs and PRide with Multiple lead changes and the game coming down to the bottom of the seventh inning. Maritime struck first in the bottom of the first scoring three runs on a Donlan double to left to score Kerecz and a Regis error by the first baseman to score Patane and Booker to make it 3-0 Bucs after one.

Regis answered in the second with three of their own. The first run came across on a Zancan single to center, scoring Beland. The second came in on a Bucs error allowing Page to score. Burke then singles to center to score Zancan and the game was tied at 3-3. 

Maritime scored again in the bottom of the third on a Klemp single down the right field line to score Patane from third, giving the Bucs the lead once again, 4-3, after three.

In the top of the fourth, Regis tied the game on a Burke double that scored Alyssa Ward from third base. Maritime took the lead back in the bottom of the frame on a Booker double, scoring Pope and Kerecz. Maritime held a 6-4 lead after four.

In the fifth, Regis scored four to take the lead once again, this time 8-6. Beland Singled to third, Page singled to left to bring in two and Zancan singled. In the bottom of the inning, Klemp grounded out to the pitcher and Butler scored from third to pull the Bucs back within one. Regis led after five innings, 8-7.

Maritime took the lead again in the bottom of the sixth when Grace Biondo grounded into a fielder's choice and there was an error by the first baseman trying to cut down a run at the plate. Two runs scored and the Bucs led, 9-8. 

In the top of the seventh, Regis scratched back two runs on a single by Allen scoring Page and pinch runner Lexi Nichols to make it 10-9 Pride. The Bucs couldn't answer in the bottom of the seventh and lost game two by a final of 10-9.

 

What's Next

The Bucs are back home on Saturday, April 1st at 12 and 2pm to take on Framingham State in their first conference games of the season at Rollins Field.
