Bucs Swept by Rams in MASCAC Opener

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass -- The Buccaneers hosted Framingham State on Sunday in their first MASCAC doubleheader of the season on a beautiful day on Taylor's Point. The hard hitting Rams came away with two wins sweeping Maritime 17-0 and 14-9.

 

Game One

  • Kelsey McGuill and Angelina Lynch each had three hits in the game one win.
  • Makayla Rooney, Camille Desrochers, Gwendolyn Carpenter, Talia Duca, and Olyvia Mendonca all had two hits in the game.
  • Zoe Smyth, Keely Scotia, and Rylynn Witek all had one hit.
  • Mendonca hit two doubles, Duca, McGuill and Lynch each had one double. 
  • Duca and Lynch each hit a triple.
  • Duca and McGuill each drove in two runs. Four other players drove in two. Rooney and Desrochers each scored three times.
  • Rooney was credited with a stolen base.

How It Happened

Framingham scored early and often in game one plating five in the top of the first to take a 5-0 lead.

In the second, the Rams scored two more runs to go up 7-0 after two. 

In the third, they plated four runs to make it 11-0.

FSU put the game away in the fifth scoring six more times to make it 17-0, the eventual final score after five innings.

  • Ab'c'de Patane led the Bucs with three hits in game two. 
  • Erin Donlan and Kelsey Booker each had two-hit games. 
  • Reagan KereczCarleen HarringAshley Haller and Abby Pope all had one hit. 
  • Booker had a double to her credit and Donlan and Patane each hit a triple.
  • Donlan drove in two runs in the game with Harring driving in two.
  • Booker, Patane, and Rubi Butler each drove in one run.
  • Kerecz, Booker, and Patane all scored twice for the Bucs.
  • Donlan, Haller and Pope all came in to score once.
  • Harring was credited with a stolen base in the loss.

Framingham

  • Brooke Grassia had four hits in the game.

  • Gwendolyn Carpenter, Talia Duca, Keely Scotia, Rylynn Witek and Angelina Lynch all had two hits.
  • Kelsey McGuill, Carpenter, Scotia, Witek and Lynch all had doubles.
  • Grassia and Lynch each had a triple to their credit.
  • Duca drove in three runs in the win.
  • Grassia, Carpenter, Scotia and Lynch all drove in two.
  • Grassia scored three times,three players scored twice.
  • Grassia and Rooney both had a stolen base.

 

How It Happened

Framingham scored first in game two taking a 1-0 lead after the top of the inning. In the bottom of the first, the Buccaneers scored four runs, the first on Donlan's triple; she then scored on a wild pitch, Patane tripled to left to score Booker and Butler hit a sacrifice fly to right to score Patane. The Bucs led 4-1 after one.

In the second, the Rams cut the deficit in half scoring one on Lynch's triple to make it 4-2. 

The Bucs were unable to score in the bottom of the second which left the door open for the Rams in the top of the third and they took advantage of the opportunity scoring five runs to take a 7-4 lead. 

In the top of the fourth, Framingham scored another to extend their lead to 8-4 on a Rooney single. In the bottom of the frame, the Bucs climbed back into it and took their second lead of the ballgame, 9-8. Donlan singled to score Pope and Haller, Booker doubled to bring in Kerecz, and Harring singled to score Booker and Patane.

After an uneventful fifth inning the Rams retook the lead in the top of the sixth on Carpenter and Duca singles to take a 10-9 lead. 

Moran shut down the Bucs after retaking her spot in the circle and didn't allow any runs across. Her team then scored four in the top of the seventh to make it 14-9. Moran sat the Bucs down in order in the seventh to win the game, 14-9, and sweep the MASCAC series.

 

What's Next

Maritime heads to Westfield State on Friday, April 7th to take on the Owls in conference play beginning at 3pm.
