Softball Sweeps Bay Path to Extend Win Streak to Seven Games

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass -- The Buccaneers hosted Bay Path on Sunday in a non-conference doubleheader at Rollins Field. Coming into the games on a five-game winning streak, Maritime extended that streak to seven games with 10-5 and 12-4 wins over the Wildcats.

At The Plate

Maritime

  • Kelsey Booker and Ab'c'de Patane each had three hits in the game. Booker had a double and a triple, Patane recorded a double. 
  • Klemp recorded two hits for the Bucs with a double.
  • Erin DonlanHannah Burton, and Abby Pope each had one hit. 
  • Booker drove in two runs. Carleen Harring, Patane and Pope each had one RBI. 
  • Donlan scored three times, Klemp and Burton both scored twice.
  • Reagan Kerecz, Booker, and Patane all scored once. 
  • Kerecz stole two bases in the win.

Bay Path

  • Olivia Stebbins, Alexandra Henderson, Isabelle Ferrara, and Madison Tessmer all had two hits. 
  • Three other players tallied a hit in the loss.
  • Henderson drove in two runs. Ferrara and Tessmer each drove in one. 
  • Grace Ramsey scored twice. Stebbins, Henderson and Ferrara all scored once.
  • Tessmer recorded the only extra base hit for the Wildcats, a triple.
  • Emma Scheeren, Stebbins and Ferrara all had stolen bases. 

 

How It Happened

The Bucs struck first in the bottom of the first scoring three times. The first run came on a Booker single down the right field line that scored Donlan. Later in the inning, Booker came in to score on a wild pitch. Patane scored later on a Harring sacrifice fly to right field.

Maritime added a fourth run in the bottom of the second on an error that brought in Burton. 

In the top of the fourth, the Wildcats struck with four runs of their own to tie the game at 4-4. Maritime answered in the bottom of the frame with three runs on a Pope sacrifice fly to center field to score Klemp, Kerecz stole home and Booker tripled to center field to score donlan. The Bucs led once again, this time 7-4.

The Wildcats got one back in the top of the fifth when Henderson singled down the right field line to make it 7-5. The Bucs scored again in the bottom of the fifth on an error by the Wildcats that brought in Burton and Klemp to score.

Up 9-5 in the sixth, Patane singled on the infield to drive in Donlan to make it 10-5.

Klemp shut down the 'Cats in the top of the seventh and the Buccaneers secured their sixth win in a row and sixth win of the season to go above .500, 6-5.

  • Caroline Austin and Taylor Suffoletto each had two-hit games. 
  • Four other Wildcats recorded hits.
  • Austin, Suffoletto and Olivia Stebbins all drove in a run.
  • Four different players scored in the loss.
  • Austin recorded two triples, Stebbins and Suffoletto each had one triple.

 

How It Happened

The Buccaneers struck first again in game two with five runs in the bottom of the first. 

Down 5-0, the Wildcats plated two runs in the top of the second to make it 5-2 Buccaneers. Maritime scored two on a Klemp double in the bottom of the second to extend their lead to 7-2.

In the top of the third, Stebbins reached on an error to bring in a run to cut the Maritime lead to four, 7-3. The Bucs answered again in the third on a Booker single to score Kerecz.

Bay Path scored in the top of the fourth to make it 8-4 and held the bucs in the bottom of the inning.

Klemp and the Buccaneers blanked the Wildcats in the top of the fifth then went on to score four runs in the bottom of the innings to run the lead to eight runs and win by run rule, 12-4. 

With the win, the Bucs are now 7-5 on the season and have a seven-game win streak.

 

What's Next

The Buccaneers will host Curry College in a doubleheader on Wednesday, MArch 22nd at Rollins field beginning at 4pm.
