Off-Shore Finishes Sixth at Kennedy Cup

ANNAPOLIS, MD -- This past weekend, the Buccaneers off-shore sailing team competed in the Kennedy Cup, intercollegiate sailing's Big Boat Championship, hosted by the Naval Academy. In a competition the Buccaneers have historically done well in, having finished top five each of the last five years, the Bucs finished sixth this year in a very competitive field of 10 teams. Wit

With teams from all over the nation, including 2021 winner California Maritime, the Buccaneers along with URI and Coast Guard represented their conference the NEISA in Annapolis. The Conditions for racing all weekend were ideal with a warm south-south easterly breeze.

California Maritime, the defending champions, were victorious once again racking up 14 points with four wins, a second place finish, third place finish and a fifth place finish. Navy and Coast Guard rounded out the top three with 26 and 31 points respectively.

The Buccaneers compiled 41 points in the seven events with two top five finishes, third and fourth, and they finished sixth in two events, seventh in two events and eighth once. The Bucs outpaced the College of Charleston by six points for the sixth place finish and were six points behind fellow NEISA team URI.

Rounding out the ten team table was SUNY Maritime in eighth, Michigan in ninth and Toledo in 10th.

The Buccaneers fall season came to an end with the Kennedy Cup and they will resume racing in the spring.
