Sailing: Bucs Hold off Washington for 14th Place Finish

THROGGS NECK, N.Y. -- Maritime sailing competed at the SUNY Maritime Fall Open this weekend in the wind and rain just outside of New York City.

With a heavy northeast breeze and downpouring rain, the sailors were kept off the water until 10am. Races on Saturday completed around 5m. On Sunday, it was windier but drier than Saturday's conditions and some teams were unable to handle the windy conditions with only 10 boats finishing the events.

The Buccaneers finished in 14th place with 182 points, holding off Washington College who tallied 189 points. The Bucs finished 19 points behind Cal Maritime in 13. Winning the weekend was Cornell with Webb Institute and the University of Miami finishing second and third respectively.
