Program Information

We currently operate 18 FJs out of our sailing center located on Great Herring Pond, just 10 minutes from Campus. Our keel boat team practices in Buzzards Bay on a variety of boats out of Marion Harbor.

George "Twice" Tougas is the director of sailing and our off-shore sailing head coach. Twice has been with the Academy for 10 years with the majority of his coaching taking place in Marion, on board our keel boat fleet.

Lisa Downey, Matt Wordell and Dave Fallon are our Dinghy coaches. Coach Downey coached for many years at Sharon High School while Coach Wordell sailed on the Nationally Ranked URI team. Coach Fallon has two decades of coaching experience, including two top 10 finishes at College Nationals.

The Buccaneers sailing team is well supported by the Department of Athletics. Our sailors get priority registration for classes as all other student-athletes are afforded this luxury. Our team enjoys traveling to regattas up and down the East Coast, from Annapolis, Maryland to Castine, Maine.

For Transfer Prospects

Thinking about transferring to Massachusetts Maritime Academy?  If you are currently participating or have already participated in a sport at another four year institution, you may need to fill out a release form before you can speak with one of our coaches.  You can find the self-release form here.

Student-athletes at two-year institutions do not need permission to contact our coaches and may do so at any time.
