Volleyball Sweeps Pine Manor In Gaining Split Of Tri-Match With Worcester State

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. --  Junior Amari King (Lawrence, Mass.) combined for 22 kills and 21 digs as Worcester State posted a pair of 3-0 victories over Massachusetts Maritime and Pine Manor in a college volleyball tri-match played Saturday afternoon at the Clean Harbors Athletic Center.  In the nightcap, junior Jennifer Roy’s (Attleboro, Mass.) nine kills paced the host Buccaneers to a 3-0 triumph over the Gators.

 

Sophomore Stephanie Chapin (Hampden, Mass.) notched 11 kills and four block solos in the Lancers’ (8-6, 2-0 MASCAC) 25-9, 25-3, 25-9 opening Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference win over Massachusetts Maritime (2-12, 0-2 MASCAC), while King added 10 kills and eight digs.  Junior Emily Carens (Northboro, Mass.) chipped in with eight kills in the opening victory for the Lancers, who received 23 digs from junior Megan Leavens (Storrs, Conn.).  Junior Allie Nolan (Melrose, Mass.) collected 31 set assists, six digs and three service aces as well for Worcester State, who received 11 service aces and 10 digs from senior Katrina Kangwijaya (Dunstable, Mass.) along with 10 digs from sophomore Katie Gagnon (Hampden, Mass.).

 

Roy recorded six kills in the opening setback for the Buccaneers, who received 11 digs and two kills from sophomore Marie Harrison (Weymouth, Mass.) along with nine set assists and six digs from sophomore Michelle Sheehan (Attleboro, Mass.).  Sophomore Tina Ruggeri (Bourne, Mass.) added 12 digs for the hosts, who received a combined 15 digs from senior Kaleigh Hoffman (Noblesville, Ind.) and freshman Casey Sullivan (Sagamore Beach, Mass.).

 

King posted a double-double effort of 13 digs and 12 kills in Worcester State’s 25-8, 25-10, 25-19 middle match win over Pine Manor (3-7), while freshman Madison Rowland (Swansea, Mass.) added 14 digs and eight kills.  Chapin and sophomore Marissa Proia (Framingham, Mass.) each notched six kills for the Lancers, who received 28 set assists, five digs and four service aces from Gagnon to go with 10 digs from Kangwijaya.  Sophomore Keisha Hadorn (Yokosuka, Japan) collected four kills in the opening setback for the Gators, who received eight set assists, four digs and four kills from senior Ashley Whiteshield (Seward, Ak.) as well as 12 digs from sophomore Alexa Leon (El Centro, Calif.).

 

Sophomore Meghan Sullivan (Hanover, Mass.) chipped in with six kills in Massachusetts Maritime’s 25-20, 25-22, 25-20 nightcap victory over Pine Manor, as Harrison added seven digs and five kills and Hoffman notched five digs and four kills for the hosts.  Freshman Maddie Coughlin (Monroe, Conn.) collected 19 set assists and seven service aces in the triumph for the Buccaneers, who received six digs and three kills from Sheehan, eight digs from Ruggeri and four digs from Casey Sullivan.

 

Hadorn led the way with six kills in the final match setback for the Gators, who received 12 digs and four kills from Leon to go with four kills and four digs from sophomore Viyanni Johnson (Aviano, Italy).  Whiteshield added 10 set assists and a pair of digs in the nightcap for Pine Manor, which received five digs from freshman Nahalia Faurot (Makakilo, Hawaii).

 

Massachusetts Maritime heads to Bridgewater, Mass. on Wednesday evening to take on Bridgewater State in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference outing beginning at 6:00 p.m., while Worcester State hosts MCLA in a MASCAC match on Thursday evening in Worcester, Mass. that also begins at 6:00 p.m.  Pine Manor hosts Dean in a non-league clash on Tuesday evening in Chestnut Hill, Mass. beginning at 7:00 p.m.
