CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. --  Sophomore Viyanni Johnson (Aviano, Italy) notched 24 kills to lead Pine Manor to a sweep of a non-league college volleyball doubleheader from Massachusetts Maritime by scores of 3-0 in the opener and 3-1 in the nightcap in matches played Saturday afternoon on Brunelli Court.

Johnson recorded 15 kills, four digs and three service aces in a 25-23, 25-16, 25-18 opening match triumph for the host Gators (8-14), who received eight kills, five kills and five service aces from sophomore Kendra Williams (San Diego, Calif.).  Senior Ashley Whiteshield (Seward, Ak.) added 27 set assists, seven kills, four digs and three service aces in the lid-lifter for Pine Manor, which received four kills from sophomore Keisha Hadorn (Yokosuka, Japan) and 18 digs from sophomore Alexa Leon (El Centro, Calif.).

Freshman Kaylee Tolman (East Sandwich, Mass.) registered six kills and three digs in the opening setback for the visiting Buccaneers (3-22), who received eight digs and four kills from sophomore Marie Harrison (Weymouth, Mass.).  Freshman Maddie Coughlin (Monroe, Conn.) added 14 set assists, eight digs and three kills for Massachusetts Maritime, which received a combined 10 digs and four kills from sophomores Michelle Sheehan (Attleboro, Mass.) and Tina Ruggeri (Bourne, Mass.) as well as a kill each from freshman Casey Sullivan (Sagamore Beach, Mass.) and Courtney Toomey (Norton, Mass.).

Williams posted a double-double effort of 12 kills and 12 digs in Pine Manor’s 25-21, 25-23, 19-25, 25-17 nightcap victory, as Johnson chipped in with nine kills for the hosts.  Whiteshield added 33 set assists, nine service aces, five kills and five digs in the second outing for the Gators, who received 23 digs and six kills from Leon as well as four kills from Hadorn.

Harrison collected 10 digs, eight kills and three service aces in the nightcap setback for Massachusetts Maritime, which received five kills and five digs from Sullivan.  Ruggeri added 19 digs and four kills for the Buccaneers, who received 11 digs and four kills from Tolman.  Coughlin chipped in with six service aces, five digs and four kills for the visitors, who received 24 set assists and a pair of digs from Sheehan.

Massachusetts Maritime hosts Dean in a non-league outing on Monday evening at the Clean Harbors Athletic Center beginning at 7:00 p.m., while Pine Manor hosts Fitchburg State in a non-league match on Tuesday evening at Brunelli Court that also begins at 7:00 p.m.
