Harrison Records Seven Kills As Volleyball Drops Pair At MCLA

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. --  Senior Maggie Allen (East Patchogue, N.Y.) registered 14 kills to lead MCLA to a sweep of a college volleyball doubleheader from Massachusetts Maritime by identical 3-0 finals in contests played Saturday afternoon at the Amsler Sports Center.

 

Allen and fellow senior Brianne O’Rourke (Piseco, N.Y.) had five kills each in the host Trailblazers’ (11-17, 4-3 MASCAC) 25-8, 25-5, 25-10 opening Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference triumph, while sophomore Brooke Queripel (Palmer, Ak.) added three kills for the winners.  Freshman Natasha Stewart (North Andover, Mass.) collected eight set assists in the lid-lifter for MCLA, which received nine digs from senior Mele Enomoto (Wailuku, Hawaii) as well as seven service aces and six set assists from senior Tayler Wiese (Las Vegas, Nev.).

 

Sophomore Marie Harrison (Weymouth, Mass.) notched four kills and five digs in the opening setback for the visiting Buccaneers (3-26, 1-6 MASCAC), who received three kills from freshman Casey Sullivan (Sagamore Beach, Mass.).  Sophomore Michelle Sheehan (Attleboro, Mass.) added six set assists in the lid-lifter for Massachusetts Maritime, which received four digs and a pair of set assists from senior Kaleigh Hoffman (Noblesville, Ind.), 14 digs from sophomore Tina Ruggeri (Bourne, Mass.) and five digs from freshman Maddie Coughlin (Monroe, Conn.).

 

Allen posted nine kills and nine digs in MCLA’s 25-7, 25-7, 25-13 non-league nightcap victory, while O’Rourke added five more kills for the hosts.  Wiese posted 24 set assists, six digs and a pair of kills in the second contest for the Trailblazers, who received 12 digs, three kills and pair of service aces from senior Michelle Laga (Mahopac, N.Y.) along with three kills and three service aces from Enomoto.

 

Harrison notched seven digs and three kills in the second setback for Massachusetts Maritime, which also received three kills from sophomore Meghan Sullivan (Hanover, Mass.).  Sheehan chipped in with three kills for the Buccaneers, who received 12 set assists and three digs from Coughlin, a kill and three digs from freshman Courtney Toomey (Norton, Mass.) as well as a combined 19 digs from Hoffman and Ruggeri.

 

MCLA will be seeded fourth in the upcoming Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference championships and will host fifth-seeded Salem State in a quarterfinal round match on Wednesday evening at the Amsler Sports Center beginning at 7:00 p.m., while today’s contests marked the season finales for Massachusetts Maritime.
