BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. --  Junior Talia Lombardo (Windham, N.H.) recorded 12 kills, seven digs and five service aces to lead Suffolk to a 3-1 non-league college volleyball victory over Massachusetts Maritime by game scores of 25-18, 25-6, 15-25 and 25-17 in a match played Tuesday evening at the Clean Harbors Athletic Center.

 

Junior Bridget Allison (Westford, Mass.) added a double-double effort of 10 kills and 10 digs in the season-opening triumph for the visiting Rams (1-0), who also received six kills from sophomore Sarah Mullahy (Mansfield, Mass.) as well as 12 digs and five kills from junior Emma Feeney (Monroe, Conn.).  Senior Liz Kerek (Holbrook, Mass.) notched 23 set assists and eight digs for Suffolk, which received 16 set assists and six digs from junior Rachel Fancy (Agawam, Mass.) to go with 10 digs from freshman Kayla Barbera (Wakefield, R.I.).

 

Junior Jennifer Roy (Attleboro, Mass.) collected eight kills and 13 digs in the setback for the host Buccaneers (1-2), who also received eight kills, eight digs and a pair of service aces from sophomore Marie Harrison (Weymouth, Mass.).  Sophomore Tina Ruggeri (Bourne, Mass.) added 13 digs, four kills and two service aces for Massachusetts Maritime, which received 19 set assists and six digs from sophomore Michelle Sheehan (Attleboro, Mass.) along with a combined 16 digs from freshmen Maddie Coughlin (Monroe, Conn.) and Kaylee Tolman (East Sandwich, Mass.).

 

Massachusetts Maritime heads to Milton, Mass. on Saturday morning for a non-league tri-match with host Curry and Becker that begins at 11:00 a.m., while Suffolk travels to Northampton, Mass. to take on Gallaudet in opening round play of the Smith Invitational on Friday evening beginning at 7:00 p.m.
