Volleyball Presents Geary With First Career Victory By Sweeping Johnson State

EAST LONGMEADOW, Mass. --  Sophomore Marie Harrison (Weymouth, Mass.) notched 10 kills and nine service aces as Massachusetts Maritime posted a 3-0 sweep of Johnson State to gain a split of a non-league college volleyball tri-match Saturday afternoon in the season opener played at First Baptist Church Gym.  The Buccaneers dropped a 3-0 decision to host Bay Path in the opening contest of the day, as the Wildcats followed with a 3-0 sweep of the Badgers.

 

Massachusetts Maritime (1-1) presented Head Coach Jenna-Lynn Geary with her first career victory in the nightcap, as the Buccaneers prevailed by game scores of 25-5, 25-14 and 25-19.  Junior Jennifer Roy (Attleboro, Mass.) added five kills and five service aces for the winners, who also received 17 set assists, five service aces and four kills from sophomore Michelle Sheehan (Attleboro, Mass.).  Geary’s squad recorded 26 of its 75 points off service aces alone and hit at a .538 (26-5-59) clip in the triumph that included three service aces from freshman Maddie Coughlin (Monroe, Conn.).  Sophomore Kimberly Reville (Burke, N.Y.) recorded six service aces and five kills in the opening setback for Johnson State (0-2), which also received six set assists from freshman Hanna Buedinger (Vernon, Vt.).

 

Senior Lauren Vallee (Bristol, Conn.) notched 14 kills and six digs in Bay Path’s (2-0) opening 25-12, 25-12, 25-16) win over the Buccaneers, as the Wildcats received 17 set assists from junior Lexi Cears (Agawam, Mass.) to go with five service aces from sophomore Talia Hicks (Northfield, Mass.).  Roy collected six kills in the opening setback for Massachusetts Maritime, which received three kills from Harrison, eight set assists from Sheehan and four digs from freshman Casey Sullivan (Sagamore Beach, Mass.).

 

Massachusetts Maritime hosts Suffolk in a non-league match on Tuesday evening at the Clean Harbors Athletic Center beginning at 7:00 p.m., while Bay Path hosts Saint Joseph (Conn.) in a non-league outing on Thursday evening at First Baptist Church Gym that also begins at 7:00 p.m.  Johnson State travels to Northampton, Mass. on Friday evening to take on Smith in a non-league clash beginning at 7:00 p.m.
