BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. --  Sophomore Shannon Shea (Chelmsford, Mass.) recorded 20 kills and 19 digs to lead Westfield State to a sweep of a college volleyball tri-match on Saturday afternoon, as the Owls posted a 3-0 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference victory over Massachusetts Maritime in the opening contest before collecting a 3-0 non-league triumph over Pine Manor in matches played at the Clean Harbors Athletic Center.  Pine Manor captured the final contest of the day with a 3-0 sweep of the host Buccaneers.

 

Senior Lindsay Rescott (Northport, N.Y.) notched 15 kills and five service aces in Westfield State’s (14-12, 4-0 MASCAC) 25-11, 25-6, 25-5 win over Massachusetts Maritime (3-22, 0-5 MASCAC), while Shea added 10 kills and eight digs.  Junior Carolyn Cote (Chelmsford, Mass.) chipped in with 34 set assists for the winners, who also received nine digs and five service aces from junior Sarah Green (Peabody, Mass.) and four blocks from junior Carole Duquette (Feeding Hills, Mass.).  Junior Meghan Weir (North Andover, Mass.) posted a pair of kills in the setback for the Buccaneers, who also received four set assists from junior Deb Langley (Abington, Mass.) and seven digs from freshman Emilee Spiller (Sandwich, Mass.).

 

Sophomore Kendyl Haney (Ashland, Mass.) paced Westfield State with 12 kills in its 25-9, 25-16, 25-12 triumph over Pine Manor (3-18), as Shea added 10 kills and 11 digs while junior Nicole Molleur (Union, Ky.) added 10 kills and three blocks.  Cote registered 35 set assists for the Owls, who also received 11 digs from freshman Danielle Hunt (Burlington, Mass.).  Junior Destiny Mann (Orlando, Fla.) collected five kills and three digs in the setback for the Gators, who also received three kills and three digs from junior Natasia Franklin (Windsor, Conn.) as well as seven digs from freshman Susan Le (Lowell, Mass.).

 

Mann posted 11 kills, eight digs and five service aces in Pine Manor’s 25-15, 25-17, 25-23 nightcap win over Massachusetts Maritime, as Franklin added six kills and four digs for the Gators, who also received five kills each from Le and junior Phalonge Pierre (Boston, Mass.) and 19 set assists from freshman Alexis Bushika (Adams, Mass.).  Freshman Meaghan Brain (Hanson, Mass.) recorded three kills in the nightcap setback for the Buccaneers, who also received six set assists from Langley and seven digs each from Spiller and senior Michaela Garrity (Tiverton, R.I.).

 

Massachusetts Maritime hosts Becker in a non-league outing on Monday evening at the Clean Harbors Athletic Center beginning at 7:00 p.m., while Westfield State hosts MCLA in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference match on Wednesday evening in Westfield, Mass. that begins at 7:00 p.m.  Today’s action closed out Pine Manor’s season schedule.
