Garrity, Langley Named As 2013 Volleyball Co-Captains

The start of the 2013 Massachusetts Maritime volleyball season is less than two weeks away, and as that season opening dates looms, veteran Head Coach Chris Ratches has named senior Michaela Garrity and junior Deb Langley as co-captains for the upcoming Buccaneer campaign.

Garrity, a native of Tiverton, R.I. and a graduate of St. Mary Academy-Bay View, has been a three-year starting defensive specialist, as she led Massachusetts Maritime with 148 digs to go with 33 kills and 11 service aces in 24 contests.  Langley, a native of Abington, Mass. and a graduate of South Shore Vocational High School, is a two-year starter at setter and recorded a team-best 109 set assists and 37 service aces while adding 52 kills in 2012 for the Buccaneers.

“Michaela and Deb have demonstrated outstanding commitment to the program, and they have earned total respect from their teammates,” Ratches, a former standout at Massachusetts Maritime, says of her co-captains.  “I am extremely confident that they will continue to provide great leadership and set a positive tone for everyone to emulate.”

The Buccaneers will open the new season on Thursday, September 5th by heading to Paxton, Mass. to take on Anna Maria in a non-league outing that begins at 7:00 p.m. EDT.
