BOSTON, Mass. --  Senior Mary Horgan (Mahwah, N.J.) registered eight kills and five service aces to lead Wentworth to a 3-0 victory over Massachusetts Maritime and a sweep of a non-league college volleyball tri-match Saturday afternoon at Tansey Gymnasium.  The host Leopards opened the day with a 3-0 victory over Regis, who then notched a 3-0 triumph of their own in the middle match against the Buccaneers.

 

Sophomore Rachel Keen (Medford, Mass.) added six kills in Wentworth’s (8-4) 25-8, 25-5, 25-18 win over Massachusetts Maritime (2-9), while freshman Erin Patterson (Roseville, Calif.) chipped in with five kills and four digs for the Leopards.  Junior Shannon Ponce (San Jose, Calif.) collected 21 set assists as well for the hosts, who also received 10 set assists from freshman Amanda Hunton (Monroe, N.Y.).

 

Freshman Meaghan Brain (Hanson, Mass.) notched four kills in the nightcap setback for the Buccaneers, who also received three kills each from junior Danielle Soar (Templeton, Mass.) and sophomore Emily Calnan (Hingham, Mass.).  Junior Meghan Weir (North Andover, Mass.) added a pair of kills and five set assists for Massachusetts Maritime, which also received seven digs and six set assists from junior Deb Langley (Abington, Mass.) as well as seven digs each from senior Melanie Holder (Calidonia, Panama) and freshman Emilee Spiller (Sandwich, Mass.).

 

Regis (5-12) posted a 25-8, 25-17, 25-8 middle match victory over the Buccaneers, as junior Jackie Silver (West Hills, Calif.) paced the Pride with eight kills.  Junior Sara Casullo (Little Falls, N.Y.) added six kills and five digs for Regis, which also received 15 set assists from freshman Erin Picard (Bellingham, Mass.).  Calnan collected three kills in the setback for Massachusetts Maritime, which also received nine set assists and six digs from Langley to go with four digs each from Weir, Holder and senior Michaela Garrity (Tiverton, R.I.).

 

Massachusetts Maritime travels to Leicester, Mass. on Wednesday evening to take on Becker in a non-league match that begins at 7:00 p.m., while both Wentworth and Regis will host Gordon in their next respective contests on Tuesday and Thursday evenings beginning at 7:00 p.m.
