NEWPORT, R.I. --  Freshman Savannah Sanford (San Anselmo, Calif.) registered five kills and five service aces to lead Clark to a 3-0 victory over Massachusetts Maritime and a sweep of a non-league college volleyball tri-match Saturday afternoon at Salve Regina’s Rodgers Recreation Center, as the Cougars notched a 3-1 triumph in the nightcap over the host Seahawks, who began the day with a 3-0 win over the Buccaneers.

 

Freshman Courtney Pharr (Seattle, Wash.) added four kills and five service aces for Clark (9-11), which also received 11 set assists and four service aces from freshman Tori Whitney (Sunderland, Mass.) in taking a 25-7, 25-6, 25-8 decision.  Sophomore Emily Calnan (Hingham, Mass.) collected a pair of kills in the nightcap setback for Massachusetts Maritime (3-19), which also received three set assists from senior Michaela Garrity (Tiverton, R.I.) and nine digs from freshman Emilee Spiller (Sandwich, Mass.).

 

Junior Tara Kuck (Huntington, N.Y.) recorded eight kills and seven service aces in host Salve Regina’s (19-2) opening 25-3, 25-11, 25-9 victory over the Buccaneers, as sophomore Molly Nichols (Lenni, Pa.) chipped in with six kills for the Seahawks while sophomore Leah LoConte (Marshfield, Mass.) added 22 set assists and 10 service aces.  Calnan and junior Deb Langley (Abington, Mass.) notched two kills each in the opening setback for Massachusetts Maritime, as Langley added five digs and Garrity posted three more set assists.

 

Massachusetts Maritime heads to North Adams, Mass. on Monday afternoon to take on MCLA in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference match that begins at Noon, while Salve Regina travels to Milton, Mass. on Tuesday evening to face Curry in a Commonwealth Coast Conference outing beginning at 6:00 p.m.  Clark heads to Wellesley, Mass. on Tuesday evening for a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference clash with Wellesley that begins at 7:00 p.m.
