CASTLETON, Vt. --  Freshman Cassidy Tedeschi (Pascoag, R.I.) notched 17 kills to lead Castleton to a pair of 3-0 non-league college volleyball victories over Massachusetts Maritime Saturday afternoon at Glenbrook Gymnasium.

 

Tedeschi recorded nine kills, three service aces and three digs to lead the host Spartans (5-7) to a 25-10, 25-5, 25-14 victory in the opening match of the twinbill, and she followed that up with eight kills and three digs in a 25-9, 25-13, 25-7 triumph in the nightcap.  Sophomore Kaylee Pratt (Granville, N.Y.) added 11 kills on the day for Castleton, which also received a combined nine kills and 29 digs from sophomore Amanda Chambers (Lake George, N.Y.).  Sophomore Brittany Brayman (Fort Ann, N.Y.) collected 10 kills in the second match for the winners, who also received a combined 18 set assists from sophomore Shelby Smyth (Chelmsford, Mass.).

 

Senior Michaela Garrity (Tiverton, R.I.) and sophomore Emily Calnan (Hingham, Mass.) each had a combined eight kills in the setbacks for the visiting Buccaneers (2-13), who also received four kills, 10 set assists and eight digs from junior Deb Langley (Abington, Mass.) as well as 27 digs (14 in the opener) from freshman Stephanie O’Connor (Westwood, Mass.).  Junior Meghan Weir (North Andover, Mass.) added two kills and nine set assists for Massachusetts Maritime, which also received two kills each from juniors Danielle Soar (Templeton, Mass.) and Jessie Goodhue (Hyde Park, Mass.) as well as freshman Meaghan Brain (Hanson, Mass.).

 

Massachusetts Maritime heads to Bridgewater, Mass. on Wednesday evening to take on Bridgewater State in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference outing that begins at 6:00 p.m., while Castleton will be idle until next Saturday afternoon when the Spartans head to Poultney, Vt. to take on Lyndon State and host Green Mountain in tri-match play beginning at 2:00 p.m.
