BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. --  Sophomore Emily Peay (Lebanon, Conn.) registered 13 kills and four digs to lead Salem State to a 3-0 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference volleyball victory over Massachusetts Maritime Wednesday evening by game scores of 25-23, 25-20 and 26-24 in a league match played at the Clean Harbors Athletic Center.

 

Sophomore Shuly Sejour (Chelsea, Mass.) added 11 kills in the triumph for the visiting Vikings (5-12, 2-3 MASCAC), who also received eight kills and 11 digs from sophomore Megan Forrest (Greenfield, Mass.) as well as six kills from sophomore Sarah Collins (Grafton, Mass.).  Senior Mackenzie Carpenter (Peabody, Mass.) finished with 36 set assists on the night for Salem State, which also received seven digs from senior Nicole Roscoe (Lowell, Mass.).

 

Sophomore Emily Calnan (Hingham, Mass.) notched five kills and two solo blocks in the setback for the host Buccaneers (3-24, 0-6 MASCAC), who also received four kills, three digs and six set assists from junior Deb Langley (Abington, Mass.).  Senior Michaela Garrity (Tiverton, R.I.) added three kills and three digs for Massachusetts Maritime, which also received three kills each from junior Meghan Weir (North Andover, Mass.) and freshman Meaghan Brain (Hanson, Mass.) as well as 10 digs from freshman Stephanie O’Connor (Westwood, Mass.).

 

Tonight’s match marked the season finale for Massachusetts Maritime, while Salem State returns to action next Tuesday evening by heading to Newton, Mass. to take on Mount Ida in a non-league match that begins at 6:00 p.m.
