Calnan Registers Eight Kills As Volleyball Drops 3-0 Non-League Decision At Becker

WORCESTER, Mass. --  Senior Jacqueline Chila (Monroe, Conn.) and freshman Marissa Turner (Coventry, R.I.) each notched eight kills to lead Becker to a 3-0 non-league college volleyball victory over Massachusetts Maritime Wednesday evening by game scores of 25-20, 25-16 and 27-25 in a match played at Leicester Gymnasium.

 

Freshman Devan Embelton (Hampstead, N.C.) added four kills in the triumph for the host Hawks (2-9), who overcame a pair of three-point deficits in the opening set while overcoming a 23-19 deficit late in the final set to post the sweep.  Seniors Kayla Prior (Swansea, Mass.) and Katelyn Burns (Fall River, Mass.) combined for 14 digs for Becker, which also received 19 set assists from junior Lauren LaVallee (Millbury, Mass.).

 

Sophomore Emily Calnan (Hingham, Mass.) registered eight kills in the setback for the visiting Buccaneers (2-10), who also received three kills each from junior Danielle Soar (Templeton, Mass.) and freshman Meaghan Brain (Hanson, Mass.).  Seniors Michaela Garrity (Tiverton, R.I.) and Melanie Holder (Calidonia, Panama) each collected 10 digs for Massachusetts Maritime, which also received nine set assists and four digs from junior Deb Langley (Abington, Mass.) as well as four set assists and three service aces from junior Meghan Weir (North Andover, Mass.).

 

Massachusetts Maritime hosts Framingham State in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference match on Friday evening at the Clean Harbors Athletic Center beginning at 6:00 p.m., while Becker hosts Mitchell and Pratt in tri-match action on Saturday morning at Leicester Gymnasium beginning at 11:00 a.m.
