BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. --  Junior Laura Schmidt (Stuart, Fla.) registered eight kills to lead Gordon to a 3-0 non-league college volleyball victory over Massachusetts Maritime Tuesday evening by game scores of 25-18, 25-12 and 25-17 in a match played at the Clean Harbors Athletic Center.

 

Junior Faith Gerdes (Wall Lake, Iowa) and sophomore Maggie Swor (Pearland, Tex.) added six kills each in the triumph for the Fighting Scots (7-11), who also received five kills and 10 digs from sophomore Jessica Burdick (Bewerton, N.Y.) as well as five kills from junior Shaylyn Roach (South Weymouth, Mass.).  Senior Lauren Kranyak (Locust Grove, Va.) notched 32 set assists for Gordon, which also received four kills and five service aces from freshman Jenna Labbadia (Berlin, Conn.) as well as 14 digs from freshman Maggie Risma (Hudson, Ohio).

 

Sophomore Emily Calnan (Hingham, Mass.) recorded three kills in the setback for the host Buccaneers (2-17), who also received two kills, five set assists and five digs from junior Deb Langley (Abington, Mass.).  Freshman Stephanie O’Connor (Westwood, Mass.) collected 16 digs for Massachusetts Maritime, which also received two kills and four digs from senior Michaela Garrity (Tiverton, R.I.), five set assists from junior Meghan Weir (North Andover, Mass.) and two kills each from junior Danielle Soar (Templeton, Mass.) and freshman Meaghan Brain (Hanson, Mass.).

 

Massachusetts Maritime travels to Chestnut Hill, Mass. on Wednesday evening to take on Pine Manor in a non-league outing that begins at 7:00 p.m., while Gordon hosts Salem State and Lesley in a non-league tri-match on Saturday morning in Wenham, Mass. that begins at 11:00 a.m.
