Bucs Shutout by Bears in Conference Play at Home

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass -- Maritime women's soccer hosted Bridgewater State on Saturday in MASCAC play. Tied for first place in the conference with Westfield State, Bridgewater took no chances against the Bucs as they put up six goals in a 7-0 shutout win over Maritime.

Inside The Numbers

Maritime

  • Senior captain Abigail Lelievre recorded the only shot on target for Maritime in the match. 
  • Lelievre, Ayla SantoroTaylor Blanton, and Emily Mullahy each had a shot in the loss.
  • Goalkeeper Brady Deschamps had a busy day between the pipes as she made 19 saves and allowed seven goals on 26 shots faced.
  • In total, the Bucs took four shots, one on goal, and had one corner kick in the game.

Bridgewater State

  • Bears leading goalscorer Sydney Dewhurst scored twice and had two assists in the win.
  • Olivia Robarge scored the game winner and Lexie Menezes, Skylar Conrad, and Natalie Mattos all scored once. The Buccaneers were also charged with an own goal.
  • Stephanie Spear and Lauren Sellmayer were each credited with an assist.
  • Starting goalkeeper Logan Levesque earned the win in 45 minutes with no shots faced. Tori Gemellaro took over in the second half and saved the only shot she faced to earn a combined clean sheet for the Bears goalkeepers.
  • In total, the Bears took 38 shots, 26 on target, and had five corner kicks in the win.

How It Happened

Robarge scored the first goal and the eventual game winner in the 17th minute. She dribbled into the box and tucked the ball into the bottom right hand corner to make it 1-0. Bridgewater scored three more times in the first half with their second goal coming in the 28th minute from Conrad on a pass from Dewhurst. Dewhurst scored her first of the match in the 35th minute with an assist from Sellmayer. Mattoes made it 4-0 in the 37th minute on a pass from Dewhurst, her second assist of the game. Bridgewater led the Bucs 4-0 at the break.

In the second half, 15 minutes in, the Bucs were charged with an own goal after a Bears shot was deflected by the Buccaneers defense into the net to make it 5-0 Bridgewater. In the 80th minute, Dewhurst scored her second on a pass from Spear off of a free kick to make the score 6-0. Then, in the 87 minute, Menezes scored, unassisted, to bring the score to the final of 7-0.

The Buccaneers will host Fisher College on Wednesday, October 18th in their final regular season home game of the season at 7pm.
