How It Happened

It was a chippy match between the Bucs and Falcons from the first whistle on Friday night under the lights at Clean Harbors Stadium. Both defenses squandered multiple chances keeping the match scoreless for the first 30 minutes. In the 31st minute, the Buccaneers put a ball in front of the net and after it bounced around a bit Breacher lofted the ball over the keeper and into the net for her first career goal that put the Buccaneers up 1-0. Maritime kept their one-goal advantage into the halftime break.

In the second half, Fitchburg took over, keeping the ball in their attacking third for the majority of the second 45 minutes. Kerecz and the Bucs defense held strong defending a barrage of Falcons shots until the 72nd minute. That's when Fitzgerald found a way to get the ball into the net off of a corner kick that was headed by Meixsell and then to Fitzgerald's foot and into the net to tie the game at 1-1. Both teams pushed hard offensively in the final 18 minutes to try and take the full three points from the match and in the end they each took one point inthe conference standings in a 1-1 draw. This is the third time in Maritime women's soccer history that the Bucs have drawn against Fitchburg.
