Maritime Loses Conference Opener to Owls on the Road

WESTFIELD, Mass -- Bucs women's soccer traveled to Westfield State on Saturday afternoon to open their conference slate against the Owls. A strong Westfield team scored five goals in the first half to win the match 5-0.

Inside The Numbers

Maritime

  • Brady Deschamps recorded the only shot for the Bucs in the game. She also played in goal in the first half and made 11 saves while allowing the five Owls goals. 
  • Goalkeeper Reagan Kerecz played the second half between the pipes and made six saves allowing no goals in 45 minutes.
  • In total, the Bucs had one shot and did not have a corner kick in the game.

Westfield

  • Kiana Muratsuka scored two goals and had an assist in the win.
  • Delaney Parker scored once and had two assists.
  • Tia tollis and Kiana Patel rounded out the scoring for the hosts.
  • Jaida Cochran recorded an assist for Westfield in the game as well.
  • Goalkeeper Kayla Santucci earned the win in goal in 45 minutes of work.
  • In total, the Owls took 37 shots and had 12 corner kicks in the win.

How It Happened

Westfield scored their first goal in the 8th minute on a shot from Tollis, assisted by Cochran. Just over 10 minutes later, Muratsuka scored her first from Parker to give the Owls a 2-0 advantage. In the 28th minute, Patel scored on Muratsuka's assist to make the score 3-0. Muratsuka scored her second in the 33rd minute followed by Parker's score in the 42nd minute giving the Owls a 5-0 lead at half.

The second half was fairly uneventful besides the Bucs shot and the Owls held on for the 5-0 conference win over the Buccaneers.

 

What's Next

The Bucs are back on the road on Wednesday, September 20th to take on Rhode Island College in Providence, R.I. at 6pm in non-conference play.
