Women's Soccer Shutout in Labor Day Season Opener

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass -- The Buccaneers women's soccer team opened their season on Labor Day in Western Mass at Mount Holyoke College. The Buccaneers fell to the Lyons by a final of 5-0

Inside The Numbers

Maritime

  • Freshmen Leticia Ferrari and Emma Robinson each recorded a shot on goal for the Bucs. 
  • Goalkeeper Reagan Kerecz made 10 saves in 45 minutes of action in the second half
  • Goalkeeper Brady Deschamps made two saves in the first half
  • The Bucs took two total shots, both on target and did not earn a corner kick in the game.

Mount Holyoke

  • Anna Kennedy and Ada Siepmann each scored a brace for the Lyons in the win.
  • Sage Hudson scored the fifth goal.
  • Dalia Luckhardt, Sonia McCollum, and Avery Livingston each had an assist in the match.
  • Goalkeeper Evie Kreig picked up the win between the pipes with one save in 85 minute of work.
  • Holyoke took 36 total shots in the game and had four corner kicks, two in each half.

How It Happened

The game was scoreless for the first 22 minutes until Sipmann scored the first goal of the game. Three minutes later, Kennedy scored her first on a penalty kick to make it 2-0 Lyons. Mount Holyoke took their 2-0 advantage into the halftime break.

In the second half, the Lyons peppered Kerecz as they took 25 shots. Though Kerecz made 10 saves in the half, three balls got past her in the 66th, 76th and 77th minutes to give the Lyons the 5-0 lead that they would go on to win by.

 

What's Next

The Buccaneers are off until next Saturday, September 9th, when they travel to Boston to take on the Suffolk University Rams at 12pm.
