WALTHAM, Mass. --  Junior Tyler Savonen (Orleans, Mass.) netted his first career hat trick to lead 12th-ranked Brandeis to a 6-3 non-league college men’s soccer victory over Massachusetts Maritime Tuesday evening at Gordon Field.

The host Judges (11-2) jumped out to a 2-0 lead just 10:42 into the contest on markers by Savonen and senior Kyle Feather (Pinebrook, N.J.), and after freshman Thomas McCarthy (Tybee Island, Ga.) got the visiting Buccaneers (5-5-2) on the board with his second tally of the season on a feed from junior Connor McInnis (Duxbury, Mass.) in the 18th minute, Brandeis extended its lead to 3-1 at the break when sophomore Michael Chaput (Holliston, Mass.) converted a pass from freshman Josh Berg (Weymouth, Mass.) in the 32nd minute.  Savonen and freshman Evan Jastremski (Marshfield, Mass.) provided markers in a 52 second span early after intermission to give the hosts a 5-1 advantage, and Savonen completed his hat trick with an unassisted goal in the 65th minute.  Massachusetts Maritime accounted for the final margin with a pair of tallies in the final 9:19 of action, as McInnis converted a penalty kick for his second strike of the season in the 81st minute before freshman Robert McCluskey (Attleboro, Mass.) netted his first collegiate goal on a feed from senior Asa Mills (Westport, Mass.) with 1:10 remaining in the contest.

Father finished with a marker and two assists in the win for the Judges, which also received a goal and an assist from Jastremski as well as helpers from senior Ben Applefield (Avon, Conn.) and Sam Ocel (North Attleboro, Mass.).  Sophomore Kenn Fryer (Wilmington, Mass.) picked up his third win of the season with a pair of saves on the night for the hosts, while freshman Joe Cohen (Plymouth, Mass.) made a career-high 14 stops in the setback for the Buccaneers as Brandeis outshot Massachusetts Maritime by a 34-12 margin (21-5 on goal) for the match.

Massachusetts Maritime heads to Bridgewater, Mass. on Saturday afternoon to take on Bridgewater State in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference outing that begins at 3:30 p.m., while Brandeis travels to Pittsburgh, Pa. on Saturday afternoon to face Carnegie Mellon in a University Athletic Association match beginning at 1:00 p.m.
