FINAL:              UMASS DARTMOUTH 6, MASSACHUSETTS MARITIME 0

NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. --  Senior Victor Ferreira (St. Michael, Portugal) netted a pair of goals and an assist for five points to lead UMass Dartmouth to a 6-0 non-league college men’s soccer victory over Massachusetts Maritime Tuesday evening at Cressy Field.

Ferreira gave the host Corsairs (7-3) the only goal they would need just 2:03 into the contest on a feed from freshman Georges Tenie (Lunenburg, Mass.), and he sparked a five goal second half outburst by collecting his second score of the night just 2:54 after intermission before setting up junior Josh Chao (New Bedford, Mass.) less than seven minutes later.  Sophomore Aelaf Solomon (Framingham, Mass.) and freshman Alex Sarkis (Walpole, Mass.) added markers in a 6:39 span midway through the second half to extend UMass Dartmouth’s lead to five, and freshman Max Deulofeu’s (Woburn, Mass.) first collegiate goal in the 75th minute iced the hosts’ triumph.

Chao and Sarkis each finished with a goal and an assist on the evening for the Corsairs, as freshman Andrew Deane (Woburn, Mass.) picked up his third win of the season in goal for the hosts with a pair of first half saves.  Freshman Luis Carranza (New Bedford, Mass.) shared the shutout for UMass Dartmouth with one second half stop, while freshman Joe Cohen (Plymouth, Mass.) made six saves in the opening half of action in suffering the setback for the visiting Buccaneers (5-3-2).  Freshman Thomas Funkhauser (Purcellville, Va.) added three stops in the final 45 minutes of play for Massachusetts Maritime, as the Corsairs outshot the Buccaneers by a 28-15 margin for the match.

Massachusetts Maritime hosts Worcester State in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference outing on Saturday afternoon at Clean Harbors Stadium beginning at Noon, while UMass Dartmouth heads to Keene, N.H. on Saturday afternoon to take on Keene State in a Little East Conference match that begins at 1:00 p.m.
