FINAL:              MASSACHUSETTS MARITIME 1, BRIDGEWATER STATE 0 (OVERTIME)

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. --  Senior Asa Mills’s (Westport, Mass.) golden goal 2:51 into overtime lifted Massachusetts Maritime to a 1-0 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference men’s soccer victory over Bridgewater State Saturday afternoon at Swenson Field.

Mills knocked home a shot from the middle for his third marker of the season to give the visiting Buccaneers (6-5-2, 2-2-1 MASCAC) their second triumph over the host Bears (5-7-2, 2-1-2 MASCAC) in the last four seasons, as Massachusetts Maritime also registered a 2-1 at Swenson Field in 2010 to go with a 1-1 draw in Buzzards Bay back in 2011. 

Bridgewater State registered 10 of the 11 shots recorded in the opening 45 minutes of play, but Buccaneer freshman keeper Joe Cohen (Plymouth, Mass.) kept the Bears at bay with five first half saves.  Cohen and Bear senior keeper Matt Bagley (Braintree, Mass.) each made stops in the final 10 minutes of regulation before Mills provided the heroics for the visitors.

Cohen recorded seven total saves to pick up his fourth win and second shutout of the season for Massachusetts Maritime, while Bagley made a pair of stops in the setback for Bridgewater State, which held a 14-4 advantage in shots and an 8-3 edge in corners for the match.

Massachusetts Maritime heads into Boston on Tuesday afternoon to take on UMass Boston in a non-league outing that begins at 3:00 p.m., while Bridgewater State hosts UMass Dartmouth in a non-league match on Tuesday evening at Swenson Field beginning at 7:00 p.m.
