FINAL:              MASSACHUSETTS MARITIME 3, ANNA MARIA 0

PAXTON, Mass. --  Junior Dillon Jones (Sagamore Beach, Mass.) netted a goal and an assist as Massachusetts Maritime remained unbeaten on the young season with a 3-0 non-league college men’s soccer victory over Anna Maria Thursday afternoon at Amcat Field.

Freshman Killian Simpson (Nahant, Mass.) gave the visiting Buccaneers, who are off to the best start in school history at 5-0-1 overall, the only tally they would need with just 30 seconds remaining in the opening half on a feed from Jones from the left side for a 1-0 advantage at the break, and sophomore Nick Parker (Plymouth, Mass.) extended that margin to 2-0 with just under six minutes remaining in the match by converting a penalty kick.  Jones accounted for the final score just over a minute later with his first collegiate marker from 10 yards out for Massachusetts Maritime, which topped its previous best start of 4-0-1 set during the 2001 season.

Freshman Thomas Funkhauser (Purcellville, Va.) made seven saves, including five first half stops, to record his second victory and first career solo shutout in goal for the Buccaneers, while sophomore Andrew Dahl (Marlton, N.J.) made six stops in the setback for the host Amcats (3-3-1) as Massachusetts Maritime outshot Anna Maria by a 15-11 margin for the afternoon.

Massachusetts Maritime heads to Fitchburg, Mass. on Saturday morning to take on Fitchburg State in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference outing that begins at 10:00 a.m., while Anna Maria hosts Mount Ida in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference clash on Saturday afternoon at Amcat Field beginning at Noon.
