Elliot Field, Fitchburg, Mass.

FINAL:              MASSACHUSETTS MARITIME 0, FITCHBURG STATE 0 (DOUBLE OVERTIME)

FITCHBURG, Mass. --  Junior Aidan Hanratty (East Bridgewater, Mass.) made 13 saves, including four in the two overtime periods, to lead Fitchburg State to a scoreless draw with Massachusetts Maritime in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference men’s soccer match played Saturday morning at Elliot Field.

The visiting Buccaneers, who continued their best start ever at 5-0-2 and 1-0-1 in MASCAC play, outshot the host Falcons (4-4-2, 1-0-1 MASCAC) by a 15-5 margin over the final 65 minutes of action after each squad had registered nine shots in the opening half.  Hanratty kept the contest scoreless with a pair of point blank stops on shots by Massachusetts Maritime senior Asa Mills (Westport, Mass.) in the first extra session after Fitchburg State had a chance to post the victory in the final 10 seconds of regulation, as Buccaneer freshman Joe Cohen (Plymouth, Mass.) denied Falcon junior James David (Haverhill, Mass.) on that bid.

Cohen collected his second tie to go with three wins with a pair of stops over the final 65 minutes of play for Massachusetts Maritime, as fellow freshman Thomas Funkhauser (Purcellville, Va.) made three first half saves for the visitors.  Hanratty made nine saves in regulation (six in the first 45 minutes of action) in recording the draw for Fitchburg State, as the Buccaneers outshot the Falcons by a 24-14 margin overall (13-5 on target) and held a 9-3 edge in corners for the contest.

Massachusetts Maritime hosts Salve Regina in a non-league outing on Tuesday evening at Clean Harbors Stadium beginning at 7:00 p.m., while Fitchburg State will be idle until next Saturday afternoon when the Falcons head to North Adams, Mass. to take on MCLA in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference match that begins at 1:00 p.m.
