Mills, Riley & Machaby Named As Men's Soccer Captains For 2013 Campaign

Leadership has always been a trademark of Massachusetts Maritime men’s soccer during Head Coach Greg Perry’s two decade tenure, and the veteran mentor will look to a trio of seniors to set the example both on and off the field as Buccaneer team captains in 2013.

Seniors Asa Mills (Westport, Mass./Bishop Stang), Daniel Riley (Hanover, Mass./Hanover) and Stephen Machaby (Rockland, Mass./Rockland) have been appointed as tri-captains for Perry’s 21st season along the banks of the Cape Cod Canal, as he describes the trio as “incredibly committed to the fundamental goals of our program and the mission of the Academy.  They set the tone and provide the example of what our student-athletes should strive to achieve in competition, in the classroom and in the Regiment, and their appointment as captains is a direct reflection of their hard work.”

All three Buccaneers have been standouts on the defensive side of the field for Perry throughout their respective careers, as Mills earned first team all-Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference accolades last fall and combined with Riley and Machaby to anchor a unit that allowed just 1.17 goals per contest in 2012.  The trio started in all 17 matches last season for Massachusetts Maritime, with Mills chipping in with a goal on the offensive side of the ball.
