Maritime Knocked Out of MASCAC Playoffs by Lancers

WORCESTER, MA -- Tuesday evening, the Buccaneers made their third MASCAC playoffs appearance, first since 2019, having had their last two seasons shortened. For the second consecutive time in the conference tournament, the Bucs took on Worcester State. The Buccaneers were in the game much of the first half until the Lancer grabbed hold of the momentum and eliminated Maritime by a score of 15-5.

In the Field

Maritime

  • Nora McLaughlin and Lindsy Durgin scored two goals in the game.
  • Grace Calvert rounded out the scoring for the Bucs.
  • Alyssa DiScipio and Cassie Llewellyn each had an assist.
  • DiScipio picked up a game-high five ground balls and won a game-high six draw controls.
  • Defensively, DiScipio also caused a game-high five turnovers.
  • Maritime picked up 11 ground balls, were successful on 15 of 19 clears, won 11 craw controls scored on one of six free position shots and took 25 total shots in the loss.

Worcester

  • Shea Jarvis and Clare Conway each scored a game-high four goals. 
  • Emily Pavoni added three scores
  • Lily Gendron, Bridget Smestad, Hannah Erickson, and Julia Ravenelle all scored once.
  • Abby Lauzon had three assists in the game. Gendron, Jarvis, Erickson and Ravenelle each had two helpers.
  • Jarvis and Sarah Melanson led the Lancers with four ground balls.
  • Gendron and Ravenelle had five draw controls each.
  • Melanson led the team with three caused turnovers.

How It Happened

Maritime took an early 2-0 lead in the first 1:40 with McLaughlin and Calvert scoring. Worcester scored their first off the draw, 15 seconds after Calvert's goal to make it 2-1. Worcester scored again with 19 seconds left in the first to tie the game at 2-2 after one quarter of play.

In the second, Worcester scored the first two goals to take the lead, 4-3. Maritime got a third goal from Durgin to cut the Lancer lead to one goal, 4-3. Worcester went on to score five goals in five minutes to take a commanding 9-3 advantage with five minutes left in the half. In the final five minutes, both teams scored with Durgin scoring her second and Pavoni scoring with 1:35 left in the second. Worcester took a 10-4 lead into the break.

The third quarter was controlled by Worcester with the Lancers scoring four goals, two in the first two minutes, and two in the final seven minutes. Worcester led 14-4 after three. 

Each team scored once in the fourth with Worcester scoring first at 9:12. The Bucs scored last on a McLaughlin goal, from DiScipio, to make it 15-5 which would be the final score. Worcester moves on to the Conference Semifinals against Worcester on Thursday, the Buccaneers season comes to an end with the team finishing 9-9 overall.
