Women's Lacrosse: Buccaneers Shutout Mariners

BUZZARDS BAY, MA -- The Buccaneers hosted Mitchell College on Tuesday night in non-conference play. Maritime has never lost to the Mariners and kept that streak going tonight with a 20-0 shutout win.

In The Field

Maritime

  • Alyssa DiScipio scored a game-high six goals. Her fifth goal of the game marked her 53rd of the season, a new program record for single-season goals scored, beating Casey Sullivan's record from 2019.
  • Nora McLaughlin scored four times, Cassie Llewellyn added three scores.
  • Grace Calvert and Allie Dickinson both score twice.
  • Caleigh TompkinsLindsy Durgin, and Paige Albertson all scored once.
  • Albertson led all players with four assists. Llewellyn, McLaughlin, and Dickinson all had two assists. DiScipio added one helper.
  • Llewellyn picked up a game-high six ground balls.
  • DiScipio won the most draw controls with six and caused the most turnovers with four.
  • Maritime picked up 30 ground balls, were successful on seven of nine clears, won 14 draw controls, scored on three of eight free position shots and took 36 total shots in the game.

Mitchell

  • Abby Rasmussen picked up a team-high five ground balls and tied for the team high in draw controls with Jessica Krupnikoff with three.
  • Fallon McGraw caused a team-high three turnovers in the loss.
  • Mitchell picked up 17 ground balls, were successful on six of 22 clears, won eight draw controls, failed to score on either of their free-position opportunities and took four total shots.

How It Happened

The Buccaneers scored eight times in the first quarter, the first from DiScipio on a pass from Dickinson. The scored three goals in the first five minutes, four in the middle of the period and McLaughlin scored the final goal of the period with 2:44 on the clock. The Bucs led 8-0 after one.

In the second, Maritime added seven goals, the first of the quarter from DiScipio again. Llewellyn scored the final goal of the half with 13 second left on the clock, from Durgin, to give the Bucs a 15-0 lead at the break.

In the third, the Bucs scored twice, the first from Dickinson on a pass from Llewellyn. The second came from the stick of Llewellyn on a pass from Albertson. The Bucs led 17-0 after three.

Maritime added three more in the fourth, the first from Dickinson, second from Calvert and third from Tompkins on a free position shot. The Bucs went on to pick up the win, 20-0, on a record breaking night for DiScipio and the return of Kleber in goal.

Maritime will host MCLA on Friday evening at 7pm in MASCAC play at Clean Harbors Stadium.
