How It Happened

It was hard to stay dry on Taylor's Point on Saturday afternoon as the rain was coming down sideways and in buckets. The rain did let up a little by the first draw though it remained wet throughout the entire game.

Maritime opened the scoring on a Dickinson goal from DiScipio just 24 seconds into the game. The Bucs held that 1-0 lead until the six minute mark of the quarter when they extended the lead to two goals on a Llewellyn goal, assisted by Albertson. Two minutes later, the Bucs made it a three-goal advantage on DiScipio's first of the day, from Stephens. That was Stephens's first career point. Down 3-0, Clark found their way on to the scoresheet less than a minute after the Bucs went up 3-0. Fogarty scored her first to cut the Maritime lead to two goals. The teams went to the second with the Bucs leading 3-1.

In the second, Maritime went on their second three-goal run of the game and all in a two minute span. At 8:09 Llewellyn scored her second and DiScipio followed that with two goals in 56 seconds. The Buccaneers were out to a 6-1 lead with six minutes left in the half. In those last six minutes of the third, Clark scored twice, both goals coming from Simmons. Neither team scored in the final five minutes and the game went to halftime with Maritime on top, 6-3.

In the second half, the Clark defense stood strong, not only not allowing the Bucs to get inside the eight yard box but also not allowing a goal in the quarter. The Cougars scored two of their own from Fogarty and Lucas to cut the Maritime lead to one goal, 6-5, at the end of the third.

The Fourth quarter was the highest scoring quarter of the game with seven goals in total. It was started off by Clark tying the game at 6-6 with 13:11 left in regulation. A minute later, the Bucs took the lead back on Llewellyn's third of the day. Clark refused to go down without a fight as they scored to tie the game once again with 10:56 on the clock. With the score 7-7, DiScipio took over the offense for the Buccaneers scoring the next three goals, the first in under a minute after the Clark tying goal and she netted her fifth and sixth goals over the next six minutes. the Cougars, unable to find another goal, watched as Llewellyn scored her fourth goal of the day to cap off the 11-7 win for the Buccaneers.
