Women's Lacrosse: Maritime Sunk by Vikings in MASCAC Play

SALEM, MA -- Women's Lacrosse traveled north to Salem on Saturday to take on the Vikings in each of the team's fifth conference games of the season. Over the past few years, the Bucs have done well against the Vikings. In 2022, Salem got the best of the Buccaneers, 15-11.

  • Suzanne Stefanik tallied two assists. Parthum and Sujko each had one.
  • Sujko picked up six ground balls to lead the Vikings.
  • Schmink won eight draw controls.
  • Sujko caused four turnovers in the iwn. Wells and Carmen Lieberth each caused three.
  • Salem picked up 38 ground balls, cleared eight of 10 times, won 16 draw controls, scored on three of five free positions and took a total of 30 shots.

How It Happened

Salem scored the first two goals of the game in the first four minutes to take a 3-0 lead. The Bucs went on a three-goal run to take a 3-2 lead. All three goals were scored by DiScipio. Down 3-2, Sujko scored for Salem to tie the game at 3-3. Maritime retook the lead on Durgin's goal at 5:06. Salem scored the final two goals of the quarter in the last two minutes, both by Sujko to take a 5-4 advantage after one.

In the second, Salem scored three goals, unanswered, over nine minutes to take an 8-5 lead. The Bucs scored one at the 2:19 mark, DiScipio's fourth, and another with six second left before half from Alberton to cut the deficit to 8-6 at the break.

The Vikings controlled the third quarter with three goals in the first 3.5 minutes and another with 7:14 on the clock. Down 16-6, Maritime cut it to five goals on a Llewellyn score to make it 12-7 going into the fourth.

In the final 15 minutes, the teams traded goals but didn't score the first until there was 5:38 left in the game. Salem scored at 5:38 with Maritime scoring immediately off the ensuing draw control. Parthum scored for Salem at 4:48 and the Bucs answered at 3:38. With just over a minute left, the Vikings scored, down a player, to take a 15-9 lead. In the final minute, Maritime scored twice, both from the stick of McLaughlin, to cut the lead to 15-11. It wouldn't be enough for the Bucs as they fell to the Vikings in conference play.
