2022 Season Preview: Women's Lacrosse

WHAT TO KNOW

  • The Bucs welcome back 14 players from the 2021 squad, including captains Coreen Carley and Alyssa DiScipio. Seniors Sarah Smialek and Nora McLaughlin are also back for their fourth seasons.
  • Maritime posted a 1-3 record in an abbreviated, non-conference, 2021 season.
  • Coach Palumbo's staff welcomes seven freshman to the team in 2022.

PLAYERS TO WATCH

  • Senior captain Alyssa DiScipio returns for her fourth season with the Bucs. She has been a goal machine for Maritime with 31 goals in her freshman season and a combined 26 goals in eight games over the last two seasons which were cut short and abbreviated. DiScipio led the team with 14 goals in four games last season and tallied nine assists. She also won 14 draw controls and picked up seven ground balls.
  • Senior captain and defender Coreen Carley is back to anchor the defense for the Buccaneers this year. The New Hampshire native has been a big part of the defensive success of this team for the last four years and she'll look to continue that trend this season.
  • Sophomore Cassie Llewellyn is coming off of a five goal, two assist season last year in three games. She will be a major factor in the midfield for Coach Palumbo this season.
  • Junior Paige Albertson will feature in the attack this season with the graduations of Anna Deely and Casey Sullivan last year. Albertson was an assist machine in four games last year, totalling eight helpers. She added two goals and 12 ground balls in those games as well.
  • Junior goalkeeper Aviv Beringhause will be between the pipes again this season for Maritime. Last season, Beringhause recorded a 1-3 record in the team's four game season. She made 25 saves in over 127 minutes of play. The Junior keeper has a 7-6 record overall coming in to 2022.

STORYLINES

  • The Buccaneers have lost some key members of the team due to graduation and other circumstances. This young team led by a core group of seniors is poised to have a successful 2022 behind the teaching and coaching of Marc Palombo
  • The starting 12 for Maritime will look a little different this season after losing four seniors to graduation after the 2021 season.
  • The Buccaneers will play their first MASCAC game since 2019 when they travel to Fitchburg State on April 2nd.
  • From March 4-6 the Bucs will host the annual Maritime Classic with SUNY and Maine Maritime. This tournament was last played in 2020 and was won by SUNY Maritime.
  • Maritime has 17 games on the schedule, the Maximum allowed by the NCAA.
