Bucs Dodged by Owls on Senior Day

BUZZARDS BAY, MA -- On senior day for the women's lacrosse team, the Bucs welcomed MASCAC leaders Westfield State to Clean Harbors Stadium for the final regular season game of the season. The strong Owls squad went on to win the game 17-1.

In The Field

Maritime

  • Alyssa DiScipio scored the only goal of the game for the Bucs on a free position shot.
  • Cassie Llewellyn picked up a team-high five ground balls. 
  • DiScipio led the game in draw controls with five.
  • Llewellyn caused three turnovers in the game.
  • The Bucs picked up 22 ground balls, successfully cleared seven out of 31 times, won 10 draw controls, scored on one of three free position shots, and took 11 total shots in the game.

Westfield

  • Nicole Rinkus and Natalie Demaio each scored five goals in the win.
  • Lindsey Bohenko scored three times.
  • Emma Prattson scored twice and Cassidy Harvey and Cara Derby each scored once.
  • Kelly Gearin, Prattson, and Harvey each had two assists. Bohenko had one helper.
  • Emma Cretella picked up a game-high six ground balls.
  • Rinkus won four draw controls.
  • DeMaio caused a game-high four turnovers.
  • Westfield picked up 45 ground balls, were successful on 18 of 19 clears, won 12 draw controls, scored on three of eight free positions and took a total of 48 shots.

How It Happened

Maritime scored first on DiScipio's free-position goal after a minute of play. Westfield went on to score three in the first to lead 3-1 after one.

In the second, Westfield scored eight and led 11-1 at the half.

In the second half, the Owls netted six more goals, three in the third, three in the fourth. They went on to win 17-1.

 

What's Next

The Buccaneers have qualified for the MASCAC Playoffs and will play either Worcester or Bridgewater on the road on Tuesday, May 3rd.
