Women's Lacrosse: Durgin Sets Career High in Win Over RIC

BUZZARDS BAY, MA -- Buccaneer women's lacrosse hosted Rhode Island College on Wednesday evening in their only game of the week. The Bucs won the game 19-5 with freshan Lindsy Durgin posting a career-high in goals scored with six.

In The Field

Maritime

  • Durgin scored a career-high six goals to lead all players. 
  • Alyssa DiScipio scored four goals.
  • Cassie Llewellyn and Nora McLaughlin each scored twice.
  • Grace CalvertAllie Dickinson, and Caleigh Tompkins all scored in the win. Tompkin's goal was the first of her career.
  • DiScipio led the Bucs with two assists. McLaughling added one as well.
  • Llewellyn and DiScipio picked up nine ground balls each to lead all players. Llewellyn and Tompkins led all players with three caused turnovers each.
  • The Bucs picked up 46 ground balls, were successful on eight of 12 clears and took a total of 34 shots in the game.

Rhode Island College

  • Shannon O'Connell and Maddie Kross scored two goals each for the Anchorwomen.
  • Ashley Rewers rounded out the scoring for RIC.
  • Kross recorded three saves with O'Connell tallying one in the loss.
  • Three players picked up three ground balls.
  • Amara Gibau and Jenni Fiano each had two caused turnovers in the game. 
  • RIC picked up 19 ground balls, were successful on four of 20 clears, and took 12 total shots in the game.

How It Happened

Maritime scored all of the goals in the first quarter, seven in total. Spreading the ball around in this one, Llewellyn scored the first, two in the quarter, Durgin added two, DiScipio scored twice and Albertson also scored one. 

Down 7-0 after 15 minutes of play, RIC scored in the first 30 second of the second. Kross's goal made it 7-1. McLaughlin scored with nine minutes left in the first half which capped off the scoring in the first 30 minutes. The Buccaneers took an 8-1 advantage in to the halftime break.

In the third, there nine goals scored in total, seven from Maritime, two from Rhode Island. Maritime scored the first two from Calvert and Dickinson to make it 10-1. Kross added her second to make it 10-2. DiScipio then scored at 11:30 to make it 11-2. O'Connell wasted no time matching DiScipio's goal, scoring 26 second after to make it 11-3. The Bucs went on to score four unanswered to end the third quarter. After three, the Bucs led 15-3.

In the fourth, The Bucs ran their unanswered run to seven goals with Durgin, Llewellyn and DiScipio scoring. Down 18-3, O'Connell scored again for RIC to make it 18-4. Durgin then scord her sixth with 4:33 left on the clock, the final goal for the Bucs. Rewers scored her goal with just under a minute to play. The Buccaneers earned the W, 19-5, for their fifth win of the season.

The Bucs are off until Wednesday, March 30th when they will take on UMass Dartmouth on the road at 7pm.
